Man won't sell his 1963 Sting-Ray bike -- even for $100,000
Tom Mault, who owns a roofing company, says he'd rather donate the Sting-Ray -- one of the hottest American icons of the 1960s and '70s -- to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington. (DailyPress.com )
So that's who has my bike. I was raised in VA Beach and lost one just like that.....

he's a better man than i, that's for sure.

I would definitely donate something to a major institute like that if i had something they would take. I think that gratification is worth much more a million dollars. (and im a poor college student so its not like a billionaire and a million is nothing to me)

Sell it for 100k. Let them donate it to museum.

Seriously, I would be out spending that fast cash! There's no way I could turn down that sort of profit!

Man folks are funny. If I could find something for $350 that would sell for $10K I could not sell it quick enough. I would keep the memories and photos. Those are priceless.

There is a restaurant in my town that has an Orange Crate hanging from the ceiling.

I like this guy. Money will not buy you happiness, but a bright red Stingray will!
My first bike was a Stingray. A three-speed in blue and silver.

I'm glad he chose to keep the bike in America.
The bike shop owner has got to be kicking himself in the a$$ for letting that one get away.

IS THIS REALLY NEWS?
Posted by: | Friday, June 27, 2008 at 10:51 AM
Ok...if I was plenty wealthy I'd donate the bike as well...however if someone was to offer me 100K right now for some vintage thing I owned...I'd snatch the money up in a hurry!

This country will die because we love money more than bikes. And that is a cool bike.
Posted by: Torgo | Friday, June 27, 2008 at 01:20 PM
So when did the bike become worth $100,000? The man said he had been offered $50,000. Why not say "Man refuses to sell bike for ONE BILLION DOLLARS!" And by the way, he is as big a fool as the idiot who offered him $50,000

Please, read the article.
He was offered $100K by a Japanese investor.
And, he chose to donate the bike to the Smithsonian to keep an American icon within the USA.
The man does not need/want the money.
He's more interested in preserving the bike as an American icon than making money off of it.
A most honorable position.
