Buffy, the German shepherd who was shot in the leg while fending off a gunman robbing her owner, was put to sleep Thursday following complications resulting from her act of courage. "It's like a member of the family has died," says the owner. (San Francisco Chronicle)
The criminal should be put down as well. By a vet.

Rest in peace, Buffy, you're worth more than a thousand infantile "franks" could ever hope to be.

This low life should given another meeting with an attacking dog - this time on equal terms - unarmed - let's see how he ends up then.
Even though the dog(Buffy) was just doing its job and wasn't making conscious choices, its action places it way above the so called human responsible for its death. And yes,"frank" is also a sorry excuse for a human.

it drives me nuts when people say "like a member of the family" if you loved the dog and treated him or her like a memeberof the family then the animal IS a member of your family. isnt adopting a dog just as important as adopting a child in a loosly based way? besides, if the owner had flexed his second amendment right to bear arms HE should have shot the robbing SCUMBAG!

Frank may sound like a jerk, but I feel sorry for him. People who are indifferent or callous toward animal suffering and its effect on owners aren't just ignorant. People who, for whatever reason, can't understand the bond between a pet and it's owner aren't capable of experiencing that bond themselves. Their lives are empty of the great joy so many of us get from our animal friends.

Poor buffy, poor owner, Idiot criminal, perhaps that Idiot should be euthanized. It only seems fair after all the dog was just doing it's job. Is the Idiot claiming he was only doing his job too?
