"He's obviously the epitome of America's old work ethic," says a friend of 83-year-old Roy Plinska, who has no plans to retire from his department store loading dock job. "For God's sake, this guy doesn't give up!"

Roy must love his job. My job MAKES me sick sometimes.
Anyways, does anybody else like the name Roy? I LOVE IT! I'm thinking about naming my baby Roy if it's a boy....Leroy maybe and use Roy as a nickname?

Note that it doesn't say he's never been sick, only that he's never taken a sick day. Hopefully he's never given a cold or flu to a co worker.

Right. He may not have missed a day of work, but I bet he's caused a boatload of his coworkers to do so.

Yeah, guy sounds like a dick with an OCD tic about not taking sick.
I am a pretty healthy guy but there are times when I am too sick to go to work. It has nothing, zero, zip, zilch, nada with "work ethic" and everything to do with, you know, being too sick to go to work.
I guess the nazi's would have simply shot me and been done with it. Good thing we live in a civilized and enlightened, non-nazi society.

Roy is an example of what made this country great, and anyone who finds fault with his work ethic is an example of why this country is headed toward third-world status. Rather than go in and earn their paycheck, today's workers use any excuse to miss a day of work and are more worried about sick days and personal days than their workplace performance. Based on past comments on this board, I would not hire any of you to work in my orchards and in my fruit processing plant. I would hire Roy.

"Work keeps him going. And going."
Maybe he's powered by a certain type of battery???

Same house same wife same job.......Sounds more like he dont like change, no matter what.
And he probably still works because the place pays him badly.
Companies dont care about your sicks days. If they did they would reward you for them.

At least if he gets laid off it will be pretty easy for him to put a resume together.

He never smoked, "...even when doctors recommended it."
Doctors used to recommend smoking??? I guess this was around the time 'a good bleeding' was considered as a viable treatment too.

Yep...I been working for the same company for 75 years, and I'm only in my 40's..I walk uphill both ways, just to get there. I have tunneled my way through 30 foot snowdrifts, suffering from pneumonia, just to get to work. One time, I had to fight off the Nazis, while running the loading dock all by my lonesome. Another time, I kept the company from flooding, armed only with a teaspoon! I have hired and fired more people than all of you know, combined! I am going to work here until the day I die, and for several years after that!
Ya good-for-nothings, with your uppity "Lives"!

Well, I guess that answers why you haven't replied to my application to work for you, Dick. *sigh* I suppose I must hereby retract my offer.

I don't understand some of these comments. Am I less of a person b/c I would get strep a few times a year? Do people think I choose to be sick, be hospitalized, etc.? Does that make me 'lazy'?
Oh, wait, I think I know now why I got sick... guys like this came to work sick or well...
