The 74-year-old woman, who was charged with simple assault, says the preacher "was just waving his arms and had a Bible in one hand, up and down, and screaming at the top of his lungs, 'sodomites' and 'you're going to hell." She says she thought he needed a hug, so she gave him one.

God damn churchies. Let's waste tax money and civil servants time on this, great idea. He's probably done worse to little boys, I'm sure he could let a kiss on the cheek slide.

Wouldn't a preacher feel that a 74 year old would receive her punishment from God soon for her actions rather than getting the police involved?

I live in NC and I have to say that most people here are not like that preacher. In fact, when they have Pride in Durham the protesters get issued a permit along a particular street corner. The same place a local radio station gets their permit to set up their speakers to broadcast really loud music. No one wants to hear the rants of a group of hateful people and the whole community makes sure they are silenced.
I think she went about showing her message the wrong way but, come on- a hug isn't assault. Unless you're a priest.

The preacher is just mad because it was a woman who kissed him. He was hoping for some 'sodomite' to come up and give him something to 'froth at the mouth' over for a while.

Religion.
We all have to be just like them or you will burn in hell.

Sorry, if some random person came up and hugged/kissed me, their face is going to meet my knuckles.

@stevenvictx: Your line would make a very good Demotivator poster.

Yet another reason why woman and men are not the same.

Can you imagine the brouhaha that would ensue if a few hundred protesters showed up at some 2,000 person church event?

just touching, no matter where or how slightly, is battery
without permission it's illegal
doubt the judge/jury will do much to her and she doesn't seem to mind getting 'busted'

Assault with a friendly weapon. Pure and simple.
