Woman arrested for pushing 100-year-old Walmart greeter
The elderly greeter was trying to verify that a 37-year-old woman had paid for water bottles that were inside her shopping cart. The customer became upset and pushed her. (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
Exit 'bag checks' are legal if they are voluntary and non-coercive. Once you pay for the items, the store no longer has any right to your property.
Politely decline the offer to inspect your personal property and continue on your way.
Stores are not checking to see if you have shoplifted something. They are checking to see if their cashiers have given you something for free.

Show the damned receipt and quit being such an asshole. Everybody who's ever been in a Walmart knows this is how it works. Walmart is a mass merchant and not an upscale department store. Quit acting like you're above it all.
I'm just glad they employ people who need to work like this old lady. It's a shame she has to work at 100 years old but that's our world now.

I'm in agreement with you Brak about showing the receipt.
For all the misguided hate Wal-Mart receives, I can only image how much they lose each day to shoplifting and merchandise return scam asscarts.

Regardless as to how the older lady acted, that younger woman had no business pushing her hard enough that she fell over and hurt herself. She deserves jail time plus anger management counseling classes at her own expense.

My hate of Walmart is not misguided.

Well, I can see valid reasons for pushing an older person (mostly self-defense related), but this young woman was presented with none of them.

Lois might be working because she wants to get out of the house. Good for her. The pusher-trash needs a serious overhaul of her personality and sense of entitlement.

I want to take the entitle bitch who pushed her to my local hockey rink and cheque her. That's probably what it felt like to sweet little Lois. You don't hurt a nice old lady like that, just doing her job! And over wanter you can get for nearly free out of your tap!!

I agree, Have your receipt in hand and show it with a smile. If you are asked to move an item so the greeter can see under it then move it! You're at Walmart not Nordstroms. people do steal from Walmart thousands of dollars worth of merchandise a year. You should be willing to show that you are not one of those scumbags and while I'm on my soapbox, don't give grief to a cashier asking for your ID, even if you do look older then God, Its the law!

@Jamie - Videotape it and put it up on YouTube. :)

Damn. Why do folks have to be so pushy this time of year?
Posted by: twerp | Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 10:35 AM
WHO THE FK pushes a 100-year old woman???
@ Somebody... I'm with you!

Arrest the woman for assaulting the elderly lady.
Then sue the living crap out of Wal-Mart for false arrest.
When a greeter steps in front of someone and asked/demands to see anything they are arresting that person. Look up the word.
In most private security companies that do in-store security you are told NOT to stop a person unless you know and can prove they stole something. If you stop em, and they don't have it, it is your ass.
Wal-Marts practice of this is very questionable if not out right illegal.
Bak61 and those that thing like him... just go put your slave chains on and save the country the effort of passing any more unconstitutional and right removing laws. It is that very thinking that gets laws like we have now that take away the rights of the person.
You d not give up your rights just because you shop in a store. No matter what idiots tell you. Like those advocating just "show the receipt."
The store employee is implying you are a thief and a crook by stopping you to look in your bag/check that receipt. That is an insult. Never ceases to amaze me how people can twist shit like this into something that advocates more loss of individual rights and freedoms, yet are usually the first ones to cry foul when shit like the Patriot Act passes and then gets renewed.
Americans are about the dumbest citizens on earth.

What Sheila said

Regardless of whether we are voluntarily submitting to the chains of slavery at Wally World, the 37-year old was complete asstrash for getting physical with the 101-year old greeter.

LOL Phranqlin, I agree.

Sterilize her.

Yeah, any day we're going to erect internment camps because someone at a store asked to see your receipt. Dumbest on earth, indeed.

The majority of people are ill-prepared to be anywhere but their own living rooms.
Dozens if not hundreds of situations arise in the course of a day that require some degree of thought and judgement to get through. While there are rights and psuedo-rights in abundance, there is no right to be able to act on auto-pilot every second of the damn day.
Confronted by a little old lady whose multi- billionaire employer has elected to use her as their sole effort to reduce theft? Don't assault *her*--sue f***ing Walmart.

We never get asked to show our bags at Wal-Mart. And screw it, we paid for it.
Posted by: Lots42 | Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at 12:47 PM
K, I didn't mention this earlier because I'm kind of ashamed about it but I'm going there anyway though.
I went to Wal-Mart's midnight black friday sale. I'm poor and they had a great sale on some vacuum cleaners. Now I can say I suck....suck hard...anways...
While I was there I saw a pushy lady with a shopping cart nudge a pregnant lady in the belly. I was frustrated with two people that night--the pushy lady for just being a b*tch and the mouthy pregnant lady who should have known better than to be at ANY Black Friday Sale in her condition.
People are idiots and they seem to circulate at Wal-Mart.....myself included *blush*

I'll say this:
DO NOT put a 100 year old woman on receipt check duty...this is NOT a "Greeter" job, this is a Security detail. Walmart is FAMOUS for this kind of shit.
I GREATLY Dislike Walmart. Prefer Meijers.
I also GREATLY dislike the practice of checking My receipt as I exit. They HAVE cameras aimed at the cashiers at all times. If a casino can catch a dealer cheating the house, Walmart can catch Bad cashiers.
HOWEVER; until you EXIT the store they have every right to STOP you, Guilty or NOT. BUT, woe betide the Store Personnel who dares to Impede MY travel once I exit those doors. I have never sued anyone, but for that I would. I have NO reason to steal.
