Was he bopping the baloney? Or was he with a partner?

Civil litigation will more than make up for criminal charges that fall short of the punitive mark. Ravi and Wei will be working a long time to settle the tab. And it is doubtful they will be doing this with degrees from Rutgers. At that age, most everyone has pulled bone-headed stunts which could have ended with equally tragic results.

Tragic.

Jesus Christ on a pogo stick. It never fails to astound me how someone can be bright enough to get into a first-line college and be so g*ddamned stupid.
These two should be forced to sexually service an animal and have the resulting video thrown out on the net for everyone to enjoy.

Apparently the video was him and another male student and these two shining examples of humanity thought it would be funny to tape and stream it live. He jumped of the GW Bridge.
Obviously he wasn't really secure with his sexuality and these kids wanted to exploit him for their sick, insecure personal gain.

jamie - how can you stream something live if it is on tape? av=fail!
Posted by: buddy | Wednesday, September 29, 2010 at 11:15 AM
Again, punishment should fit the crime. We should have access to a camera that show these two 24/7 for a year doing everything. And I mean everything. Right down to wiping their bums after a dump.

@ Max Headroom, I hope you're not suggesting the family dog.

@ buddy-according to this article below, they streamed it live.
"Kaplan said the pair used the camera to view and transmit a live image of the student on Sept. 19"

Another article I read said the idiot Ravi posted it on his twitter account.

Unfortunately, teen movies make this type of stuff seem like a lark as no one gets into trouble in the movies. It's not so funny in real life.

On reading the more detailed stories about this, strike my above comments. There's no punishment too extreme for these two idiots, especially the roommate I don't use terms like "tears of rage" often but that's what this stupid, stupid "prank" makes me feel.

In Politics, this happens, and the strong survive.
While NOT a big supporter of the "Gay" movement, I DO think anyone has a right to keep their private life PRIVATE.
He was 18 yrs. old, by all accounts harmless and talented.
This is Cyber-Bullying and should be treated in the same way that pre-meditated assault and/or murder is.
We're NOT talking the occasional "rough" day at school here, but rather a deliberate "Hazing" meant to completely break an undeserving individual.

KDP,
The punishment should fit the crime of criminally negligent homicide. They (likely) placed the camera because they knew he was gay and in the closet. Since teh evil gays are evil, they thought it would be hilarious to show everyone he was one of them. He got scared, thought about his parents seeing him, and killed himself as a direct result of their actions. Did he HAVE to kill himself? Of course not, but we've all heard about it before, and many teens kill themselves over the realization that they are one of teh evil gays ruining 'merrika.
Our society, religion in particular, is a direct contributor to his death, but these two are easier to punish.
Posted by: Adam | Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 05:33 AM
Exactly, Adam. If only the religious nuts, bigots, and self-loathing closet cases who keep harping on teh eeevil gay menace could be made to realize how much suffering they are causing....
Dan Savage is sponsoring a YouTube campaign "It only gets better" to try to give gay teens who are dealing with bullying and hostility from their schools/parents/communities hope for the future. (Social media can be a force for good as well as destruction.)
But it's tragic that his message did not reach this poor kid.

Dan Savage should chew on this:
20 percent of gay and bisexual men living in major US cities are HIV positive, and almost half of these men do not know they are infected, according to federal research.

Actually, here is the perfect punishment for those two pathetic failures. And I take no credit since I heard it on another board:
>Put them in prison. Install a camera in the prison showers. Then just stream it live the moment those two losers drop the soap.>
And even that I think would be too good. Let's be honest. They have no defense. They engaged in deception, tricked the guy, exploited him during an intimate (read also vulnerable) moment. They pretty much pushed the guy off the bridge given that they knew what they did was wrong. And before anyone says, how did they know, here is an answer: if you have to employ deception and manipulation to hurt someone else, it's wrong. Period.

Midtown: Your statement is confusing... Are you implying no one should try to make people feel better about themselves, because a large percentage of their group doesn't practice safe sex?
In a perfect world I would assume you meant to share that horrible stat to encourage condom use, safe sex, and common sense... or do you just want everyone to know that people not like you and I are evil and should be stoned to death?

A stupid act, a sad loss.

mmm ... Very good observation, Adam. So, I'm going to go with Adam, and his statement. Midtown, what was the intent of your posting. To encourage more hate? Just because you, perhaps, feel he deserved it? I don't understand your post.
