Jaz Reynolds tweeted "Hey everyone in Austin, tx.......kill yourself #evillaugh." A short time later a gunman opened fire in the University of Texas, Austin library. (Note: A video report kicks in on this page, so you may want to lower your volume.)
(Oklahoman)
Doh! Too soon Jaz, too soon.
As a UT fan, I can say that Stoops is a class act. He coaches for the wrong school and all, but a class act.

I see nothing wrong with making fun of turd who shut down an entire campus and offed himself.

He tweeted *after* the gunman started shooting. The OSRR blurb suggests the tweet preceded the shooting which woulda really been weird....
Hey MidtownCoog, did you read the tweet? Doesn't seem to be addressing the shooter.

My bad.
I will say 1/2 of Austin already killed themselves last weekend after UCLA put that smack down on them at home.
Just wait until the dyslexics at OU get done with them.

Reynolds fell out of the two-deep, and has yet to step on the field so far this season.
and now he won't step on the field at all
the coach made an outstanding decision

who cares about a little thing like free speech
Posted by: buddy | Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:17 AM
Buddy, its still free speech. And its also dumb, insensitive and may toe the line of hate speech. He wasn't charged with anything, he was just suspended from the team.
I really like what the coach said-"Our rivalry with Texas will not come at the expense of dignity and respect." You stay classy Stoops!

Hey Buddy, exercise your freedom of speech with your boss. No one will stop you except you.
Posted by: Somebody | Thursday, September 30, 2010 at 11:43 AM
I'm glad he didn't tweet "everybody in Texas should
have a picnic table"
The first society/political party to use the "offend me not" with your speech was the Brown shirts/Adolf Hitler.
While I agree that it is unpleasant to hear offensive speech, it is much worse to erode our basic liberties. As a person that defended the constitution with my life, I may disagree with your words, but will defend your right to speak them. If one person is able to remove anothers' liberty, how long before someone removes yours. If thy ear offends thee, turn it away.

Rock, overreact much? Football is a game, and this kid sucked the fun out of it by mocking a despondent suicidal student from the rival school. The coach was right to set a standard of class for his team. Teams require discipline, and he has to maintain it or he'll lose more than games. You're comparing a coach and one impulsive Okie football player to a genocidal tyrant who murdered at least 6 million people? Get a frickin' grip, dude.

jj2, I support your right to disagree.

no one stopped the kid from sending his tweet, his freedom of speech is intact, albiet somewhat misconstrued. However, freedom to make a choice does not free a person from the consequences of the decision.

Freedom of Speech nowadays is no excuse for stupidity. Exercise your right, don't abuse it. Just as insanity is not an excuse to kill someone. People need to use common sense, it's lacking.

and Freedom of Speech doesn't mean you won't get feedback
no one says you have to like the response

Like Oliver Wendall Holmes said The right to free speech is not absolute, you can't shout fire in a crowded theater. How can you find a Marine in a crowded room? He tells you. Soldiers that fight in political wars are not defending the constitution especially when we attack them for their ideaology or unfounded suspicions.
