He'll probably plead "not guilty".
The proper punishment would have been to light up the grill and fry up a mess of bacon for two hours. Then call the cops.

Gloves would be better than socks for dexterity in picking up items to steal or to eat on the spot, and they would prevent the unfortunate fingerprint situation, too.
