Oh, no!: Students threaten to show up at school wearing flip-flops
A Tennessee school's new dress code bans the popular footwear from school grounds, but more than 200 students have pledged on a Facebook group to wear flip-flops on the first day of school in two weeks. (Tennessean.com)
I think they should all show up wearing thongs instead.

I would think Tennessee would encourage the wearing of ANY sort of footwear by their students.

First I was for the ban, then I was against it, then I was for it again...

Maybe the parents can tell me when schools started allowing flip flops. I guess I went to school in the dark ages of the 70s and 80s.

Flips-flops are dangerous. You can blow them out, step on a pop-top and cut your heel.

Lol @ Jimmy....Maybe Jimmy Buffett could do a show for them to gather support for the flip flop cause! I'd go...I'm such a parrot head!!!

Well this sucks. I wanted to wear my pink flip flops every day until winter. Now I have to go get new shoes for school.

Apparently these admins simply don't have enough to do. But now that they've anointed themselves the flip-flop police, they can justify their existence by cracking down on all the miscreants who wear them to school.

Life is hard when you're stupid.

Now I wish they would ban them in my workplace.......they are very annoying when I am trying to get work done and someone walks down the hall by my office with them on.
As for the kids.....get some real footwear on. Flip flops ruin your feet.

We shall overcome....we shall overcome some day...here in my heart, I do believe...we shall overcome someday...
A cause worth fighting for. God speed, you brave students.

these kids obviously have issues with rules and authority.God help them when they get out into the REAL world, and have to deal with both in order to hold a job.
little twits ought to be taken over someone's knee and given an attitude adjustment.

I can't think of anything to say about a picnic table or the family dog.

I must say there are some people who must be very tired carrying around all that sanctimony...
OK, maybe the kids have a problem with authority..what child didn't have a problem with authority in high school? And for people to suggest that they need an attitude adjustment, we all needed attitude adjustments in school.
The simple fact that we deal with kids bullying, bringing weapons to school, giving BJ's in the hallways, or worse, and the school chooses flip flops shows me that the administrators in this school have a real problem with priorities. However, it is Tennessee, they may have a problem with basic intelligence.
'God help them when they get out into the real world'. The real world is conforming to the younger generation faster than we may want to admit.
It used to be that you had to actually prove what you know and the salary would follow, now you get the salary first and then the worker shows you what they can do.
Ink and piercings are not only acceptable they are grounds for a hostile work environment claim against the corporation if too aggressively limited.
Casual dress is the norm, not the exception.
If you are over 40 (which I am) we need to quickly learn that we are no longer relevent and it is time to let the relevent generation have its turn. God knows we have messed it up, let's see if they can actually fix it.

If the biggest worry in your life is the footwear you have on at a place of learning is the big thing for you to stand up and say something about than you aught to go grab a nice big bag of GET REAL.

I don't think I would care if the fellow next to me had on a pink dress. School is for learning and if the fellow next to you is destracted it makes you look smarter...Unless you are a male wearing a pink dress.

Pretty logical. Protect your feet, people.
