Stop the presses!: Subway changes the way it puts cheese on subs
I don't know what's more depressing -- that this actually made it in a major metro newspaper, or that 171 people "liked" it.

It's good to know that the research department at Subway is alive and well. I hope the person who invented this new technology will be handsomely rewarded.

Only in corporate and commercial obsessed America could sh!t like this be deemed newsworthy--or matter to anyone *at all*.

Meanwhile, Burger King workers have introduced new ways to spit on cops' hamburgers.

It's about time they fixed this issue. I've been stressed for years knowing the cheese wasn't tessellated.

Sterilize the cheese.

I'm still confused. Why didn't they just buy rectangular cheese slices instead of square ones? Investigative reporting is dead at the Trib.

The thing that saddens me is that this came from Subway's "R&D" department. Odds are they have at least one librarian on staff (or someone with an MLS or similar degree). To think they had something to do with this research is depressing.
And let's be honest, was cheese tessellation really a major issue? I mean, it is pretty well known their cheese never covers the whole sandwich no matter how they lay it on the sandwich. Then again, their meats do not cover much either when you think of it. I do not know what is worse. That Subway worried about this, or that it actually made it past an editor in some news room. Slow news day?
Plus, this could lead to a cheese tessellation escalation situation. If Subway does it, will Quizno's, Jimmy John's, Schlotzky's, and the other sandwich makers follow? The humanity!

I remember when they stopped cutting the bread with their pattented u-gauge cut and started slashing it down the middle like Vinny the goon.

Oooooo, tessellation escalation
feels so good

@Einstein
OR even better buy cheese that is in 6" x 2" slices so that one fills up a whole sandwich.

Gouda for them.

Just a heads up. As soon as I went to that page, it automatically "Like"'d it from my facebook account. Pretty shady, but that's probably how they have that many people liking their crap..

Taco Bowel has developed new ways to accomodate turds in the refried beans.

Stop it, Dances. Can't take that razor sharp wit this late in the day. ;~)
On a different sub note, here in the south we have Publix supermarkets, and you can go there for a Boar's Head sub. (Or house brand) Made to order, of course. I've heard more than two people from New York and Jersey say it pretty much equals what they can get at a deli up there in sub sammich heaven. And they are Delic! Far above Subway, etc.
Damn. Now I'm hungry.

There is a 24 hour Subway near my house. And I have a Buy One get one coupon.
I wonde what happens if I can manage to be there at 11:59 pm.?
Will I got 1 tesselated, and one un-tessalalted?

Just think, probably everyone who had anything to do with THIS story has a College Diploma, or two. Gee, that's damned reassuring.

Oops. That should be "Hydrocodone Burger."

Good for them. I've been tessellating the cheese on my sandwiches at home since I learned to tessellate. I also tessellate the tomato and any other sandwich items. I hate overlapping foods.
It's about time Subway adopted this practice and we never would have known if their PR Dept. hadn't gotten it into the news.

The Cheese Stands Alone.
Posted by: Mike | Wednesday, June 30, 2010 at 08:13 PM
it's _mildly_ news because up till now they've (the sandwich 'artists') been instructed specifically NOT to tessellate, and then ask if you want to order extra cheese as you gaze at the huge gaps of cheeseless sandwich. Some internet flack followed, and they fixed the bad press. simple as that.
