Roy McCampbell says his pay is justified because he does the work of 10 people — comptroller, administrator, public safety CEO, finance director, budget director, human resources director, mayoral assistant, corporation counsel, property commission director and development corporation officer. (Chicago Tribune)

Anyone who does the work of 10 people does the work poorly.

So, the city was paying him to do the work of 10 people...and giving him up to 5 months off a year too.
Seems to me he was in a position that had a fiduciary responsibility to not screw over his employer. He can try to blame the accountants for paying him...but, as comptroller, finance director, budget director and human resources director, I would expect him to speak up if any other village employee was screwing over the village like he was.

...and it seems to me that a lot of those jobs are the SAME job. Maybe budget director=finance director? Mayoral assistant=corporation counsel? Property commission director=development corporation officer? And so forth.

He's a Blagofile, that's all.
That's the way of Chicagoland.

The only people to blame are those who drew up the contract(s) to employ McCampbell. Although McC was able to suck all the life out of the public tit, I don't see where McC is to blame.
I think you're right, MidTown. But I think it's more widespread than Chicago. This story just got some national exposure.

Simple solution: let him wander the streets of the town he ran for that salary, and let the people of that town treat him as they wish. If they're happy, he's happy. If they're not, he can try and explain it to them through a mouthful of broken teeth.

Seems like he should know EXACTLY how this happened since he was the guy in charge. Who is going to go against the boss of everyone? Take it to HR? I'm the head of HR. Take it to the Village Attorney? I'm the Village Attorney...
The mayor should lose his job over this next vote date. Asking a fox to watch over the chicken coop.

I'm surprised he didn't appoint himself Chief Dogcatcher, too, and give himself a free truck to cruise around town in.

Good for Roy. Damn smart guy. Nothing illegal, it seems.
You read the contract they offer you. You think to yourself, "Is this for real?" Then you do your job, play by the contract, and use it to make a small fortune. I see nothing wrong here except for local politicians not knowing what they're doing.
Now they've sent it off for investigation. I don't know about y'all, but I never turn in work I have personally f*ucked up to my boss for him to review, in the dim hope the fault will be planted upon somebody else. Namely, the beneficiary of my mistake. Bad business, that.

I'll BET he paid for his essays in college, too.
I second Notch, notch'rly...

Is Madoff out of prison already?

Roy went on to say, "I don't know why the city administrators are surprised at my compensation -- why did they think I had swimming pools installed at their houses, and gave them zero interest non-recourse loans?"
