Crossing guard beats up boy for calling him "fatso," other names
The 200-pound crossing guard was off duty when he spotted the 14-year-old boy who had been taunting him. The 60-year-old man allegedly kicked the kid, knocked him to the ground and put his foot on the teen's throat and chest. (Philly.com)
Yeah, the 14-year old kid is an obnoxious little punk. But a 60-year old should have been wise enough to know that beating the snot out of him was beyond stupid, however satisfying it may have been at the time.

Six foot-two and 200 pounds? If he's a fatso, I'm an fing whale.

The comments following the story are worth reading - the majority are in favor of Mr. Kelley.
The punk has learned a valuable lesson - words have meaning and consequences.

I'm 6'1" and 200 pounds, so this story has sunk me into a deep depression.

SEMSC: exactly! I read the RSS blurb and immediately thought, "Dude must be really short."

Headline fixed to say "beats up." Don't know if there was any "beating of" or even off going on.

It's the first "feel good" story I've read today. The world needs more crossing guards like this, and less kids like this.

They were "shocked" that he had a record for assault from 1971. I'm no mathmetician, but wasn't the dude like in his 20's then?
Why bring that up?

Sterilize them.

"'I certainly wouldn't want this guy crossing my kids,' he said."
And I certainly wouldn't want that slimy little puke harassing my crossing guard.

The bratling couldn't think of a better insult? O_o
I've seen better insults come out of a 6 month old's diapers.

Losing one's control...unacceptable. Violence towards another...inexcusable. The look on that young punk's face when he realized there are consequences to his actions...Priceless!!!
this was my favorite comment on the article

That must have felt good, but he is just 14, so there will be some type of price to pay for these actions. He should ask for a jury trial, you could easily find one person out of 12 that would say he isn't guilty.

Good, the guard did the job the mouthy brat's parents didn't do.
And cosmo: STFU and DIAF.

Mook! Stop feeding low I.Q. trolls! How many time do we have to go through this?
Yet I agree with your parental assessment. This Blitzkrieg "Scared Straight" experience will teach the boy the proper fear of elders and authority.
And no, I'm not snarking.

License Child-bearing...ASAP.
You need a license to do most anything, yet you can pollute the gene-pool with impunity.
"Heavens to Murgatroid!", we're screwed.

I would hope the kid learned that he shouldn't screw with someone at a job that they don't care if they lose, but more likely he learned that he can get away with screwing with people because he is under 18.

i will be a kids ass for sure.....i dont give a _uck....

I hope the kid returns the physical violence in kind. A 60-year-old man wouldn't fare well after a strong kick to the knee.
