We interrupt this Memorial Day vacation to bring you this painful report .... A man's handgun, which was in the waistband of his pants, went off while he was shopping at Lowe's Hardware Store and he was shot in the balls. (Don't miss the comments with the story.)
(Seattle Times)
A loaded gun... Chambered... With the safety off... In the waistband... I'd call this guy nuts, but that is obviously no longer the case...

"Accidental discharge" in his pants. LOL
Posted by: Dave | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 11:51 AM
Dead nutz accurate.

New meaning to the words "self defense"
Posted by: Jeez | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 01:30 PM
I guess Farmer Bob doesnt have to say "sterilize him" now.
Posted by: Jeez | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 01:32 PM
Oh hell...what a freaking idiot. Seriously. Absolute MORON! Let's just hope he hasn't already reproduced...
Freakin' braniac...

Some second amendment champions commenting on the Seattle Times site trying, as usual, to explain this guy away. It's a miracle nobody else was hurt.
Can someone tell me why the hell I should support ANYBODY'S right to carry a gun into a store?
Posted by: Saxo Grammaticus | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 02:23 PM
Hey Saxo Grammaticus.
No one is asking you to support anything.
Posted by: Jeez | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 02:36 PM
That was nuts!
Posted by: Hellotiki | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 03:24 PM
I second the motion Jeez. "Hey Saxo Grammaticus.
No one is asking you to support anything". It was dumb to have the safety off. But it is his right and people that don't support constitutional rights should go where there aren't any.
Posted by: gizmo | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 03:25 PM
That was nuts!
Posted by: Hellotiki | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 03:26 PM
Saxo: Because, if he didn't have a gun, it would be much more difficult to kill things should he get the desire to do so. Oh wait... I meant, without a gun he would be unable to assist in the militia defending our country from those that claim jesus isn't our king.
Posted by: Adam | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 04:27 PM
I see the problem. Saxo Grammaticus is Danish and has trouble with rights he doesn't have. He lives in a country that is a monarchy not a democracy. If you're gonna take a name to critize make it one that has relevance.
Posted by: gizmo | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:03 PM
criticize
Posted by: gizmo | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:13 PM
Geez, you guys are emotional about this. How about if the guy rode a motorcycle through the store? Any problem there?
btw, Gizmo, I live in Maine and come from a family of hunters. I've been handling guns for more than 50 years. It is so damn stupid of somebody to take a loaded gun into a store that I really don't think the Constitution comes into it.
Posted by: Saxo Grammaticus | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:13 PM
Saxo: You posted about his rights and why you should support it. Not his stupidiy. Read it. Try living in a part of the country where bambi is not the primary threat. He was stupid but you are showing something in that area too. We have people terrorizing other people who are helpless to defend themselves because of thinking like that. If you don't support our rights..LEAVE.
And if he is packing..does he check it at the door? Grow up Saxo, and I mean mentally.
Posted by: gizmo | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:22 PM
His "right" to carry a gun absolutely ends where he puts innocent people at risk. Would you still support him, gizmo, if he had shot your kid instead of himself? You have to take bullets very personally.
Posted by: Saxo Grammaticus | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:27 PM
I guess if he cut off his nuts with a hatchet saxo wouldnt have a problem. Must be over educated or something.
I hope this guy who shot off his nuts doesnt die of embarrassment. My bet is he`s not a member of the NRA.
Posted by: Jeez | Monday, May 31, 2010 at 05:31 PM
Gizmo says "We have people terrorizing other people who are helpless to defend themselves because of thinking like that."
Dude, it's Lynnwood. The most terrorizing thing that goes on there is some of the fashion choices. Washington is an open carry state, all he needed was to spend some money on a holster and he'd still have some balls.

This is a "dog bites man" story. Not news. Not funny. Merely painful. "Man shoots self in foot" is funny.
Posted by: Natty Bumppo | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 04:21 AM
Has anyone who argues rabidly for gun rights actually read the second ammendment? It doesn't say "Any citizen who wishes to own a firearm may do so". It says "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
I still don't understand how that "well regulated militia" part has been twisted to the point of "everyone who wants automatic weapons should have some". We do have a well regulated militia - the National Guard. I do support gun rights to some extent, but the idea that everyone should own a gun is strange to me.

JOE: You're Wrong. Deal with it.
Saxo: If we ACTUALLY held people accountable for their actions and stupidity, we would have FAR LESS stupidity and irresponsibility.
While I'd like to agree with Natty Bumpo, the crux of the matter lies in what David said. In an "Open Carry State" the unlawful discharge of a firearm in a public place MUST be punished. The loss of his bollocks notwithstanding, this idiot needs to be punished for his stupidity and irresponsibility...and I can't think of a better way than Public Humiliation in the form of the Pillory (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pillory).
Put these people in the malls and downtowns of America with a jailer to keep other idiots from physically harming them beyond the structures of the sentencing.
Watch how fast people start to take notice after drunk drivers, embezzlers and others of that ilk become fodder for public ridicule.
Hell, I don't want those billion dollar Ponzi in jail!
I want to see them paraded on MAIN STREET all across America. Make it a federal tourbus and let their victims heap their scorn and derision on them every day in a different town.
Posted by: Krash | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 05:09 AM
BTW, I do b'lieve Jeez is on to something important, too.
Some people ARE seeming "over-educated". MUCH to the chagrin of the rest of us.
Posted by: Krash | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 05:12 AM
...That's "Ponzi ARTISTS...."
Posted by: Krash | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 05:14 AM
Hard to believe one little comment from me let loose so much paranoia and rage. You guys off your meds or something?
More to the point, Joe is dead on the money about the 2nd amendment. As for those of you who think having enough education to think clearly is a problem, God help you.
Posted by: Saxo Grammaticus | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 07:23 AM
No blow hard for that one....
Blow hard happened.
I geuss he went to the right place to fix his plumbing.
He is all set for prison NOW.... He shall be the girl.

I don't think it's the lack of meds... I think everyone's hung over from the long weekend. Except me. :)
Anyway... nope, Farmer Bob doesn't need to sterilize this one...

Just another asshat exercising his Second Amendment right to be a dangerous (and now ball-less, ha ha!) moron.
Serious question: Why are so many gun owners idiots?
Posted by: Phranqlin | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 09:13 AM
The National Guard is NOT the, or a militia. Militia is ordinary citizens who gather together to defend their country. And fight alongside the National Guard, should there be an invasion.

There are relatively few incidents with registered, legal handguns in Philadelphia. What we have a huge problem with is crimes committed by illegal guns. The way to address that is not to go after the legal holders but the illegal guns- and people who provide them to the 2% of the repeat felons who commit 95% of Philadelphia's violent crimes.
Needless to say every step the local authorities have attempted to take- including those recommended and endorsed by the FOP- are fought tooth and nail by the gun lobby who make themselves directly complicit in the roughly 1500+ yearly shootings we have round these parts. I'd also point a great big finger at our City courts. Anybody who has spent more than 5 minutes having any sort of dealings down there (let alone multiple week long stints as a juror) will tell you as long as you care to listen how broken the system is. *Legally* registered handguns are not the reason why Phila. has a 20% conviction rate following arrests for armed robbery.
But hey, you wanna shoot yourself in the balls, well god love ya.

Aw shucks. Thanks crash
One of my biggest regrets in life was being educated by morons in public schools. Their curriculum "clouded" my sense of judgment and common sense and Saxo`s statement reminded me of some teachers I was forced to study under. Give me back my private school with its corporal punishment and dear Mrs Reynolds the 80 year old who taught 3 grades in one room, not like these whiny pissant teachers who are taught to believe they are important and relevant when they arent.
I hope that guys balls are feeling better. Maybe we need a followup report?
Posted by: Jeez | Tuesday, June 01, 2010 at 02:34 PM
@ Phranqlin: "Serious question: Why are so many gun owners idiots?"
Very, very few are. This is just another example of the few witless ones out of millions of legal gun owners in America. They make for great and sensational stories.
Thus we can snark.
I liked all the comments about "...if a child had been hit by the bullet." Jeez, more children were killed or seriously injured that day in vehicle crashes while their mom/dad driver was yacking or texting on a cell phone.
