Elderly driver claims Toyota sped up, crashed into building
Remember when older drivers hit buildings after hitting the gas pedal instead of the brakes? That's been replaced with the-Toyota-did-it! excuse.

NASA will undoubtably figure it out after Toyota and the DOT failed. More tax money spent.
Weld all the Prius models together and fly them to the moon?

NASA needs something to do. Obie One just put the death sentence on the JSC, so why not?

Elderly driver blames her Toyota -- can I predict 'em, or what?
Posted by: Phranqlin | Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 07:33 AM
I predict that this will blow over like the Audi problem.
I admit that Toyota is handling this much better than Audi by challenging all to pinpoint the problem.
I also predict that the smarter our cars become, the stupider the drivers will become. I drive old cars with manual transmissions and no computer equipment. I'm probably the smartest guy on the road.

That's what vehicles do when you mistake the accelerator for the brake.

Yeah, this is starting to 'mind me of the Audi 5000... or the Seattle windshield-pitting incident. The tiniest grain of truth turns into mass hysteria and finger-pointing.

"...when you mistake the accelerator for the brake..."
or when you hit them both at the same time!

I think the key line in the story is:
"Myrna explains that the car had already received the recall fix, and now she intends to go after Toyota."
I just told my elderly mother to replace her old Toyota with a new one and then drive right into a bank on her way home from the dealer. Ka-Ching.

You always have to tell old people something at least twice.

I don't know why it did that but LOL @ Sheila anyway.

"Weld all the Prius models together and fly them to the moon?"
thomas,
They wouldn't be able to stop at the moon.

Toyota released a statement of their intention on taking the building to court. They will try to prove that the car was parked and the building actually ran into the car.

I drive a Toyota and I love it. I'd buy a new Toyota today if I had the dough. This uncontrolled acceleration stuff is overblown.
Posted by: wank | Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 11:16 AM
The cars themselves are not the problem. I think somebody has some grudge against Toyota and they are pulling that old Blues Brothers trick by gluing the gas pedal to the floors of unsuspecting drivers.

More excuses than Toyotas out there. People are only looking for an insurance payout. Buy a Toyota today, drive wrecklessly, then cash in on the recall hubbub tomorrow.

KDP: Glad to know you're among the 93% who believe they are better than average drivers.

Oh, no, mianne. I stated that I'm probably the smartest driver on the road. My car doesn't make me stupid. There's a difference.
