An American University newspaper columnist wrote that a woman who attends a frat party, drinks more than five glasses of alcohol and follows a guy to his room is indicating that she's willing to have sex and shouldn't "cry date rape" the next morning. That has some students up in arms. (Poynter/Romenesko)

I'm sure he'll go far as a gay liberal republican.

i think the public should stop treating the accused as if they are guilty. by this, i mean that the media does not hesitate to publish the names of someone that is accused of rape but does not name the accuser. this shows a presumption of guilt.
look at nancy grace's treatment of the infamous duke case and how she handled her show when the case was dropped.
a girl's word is not enough proof to convict.

A gay, liberal republican? Really? I cannot top the humor in that alone.

Liquor and nudity...
Whoa. It's deja vu all over again.

A woman who attends a frat party, drinks more than five glasses of alcohol, follows a guy to his room, and is indicating that she's willing to have sex SHOULDN'T cry, "date rape."
Shame on her.

I'm pretty insensitive towards rapists. From knowing victims personally. On the other hand, I wonder how many guys accused of date rape are actually only guilty of insufficient foreplay. That said, I'll always lean toward the accuser. No means No. I don't care how many beers the guy has had. No is a very simple word we learn from before toddlerhood. Don't tell me you can't remember the meaning when you're drunk.
Gay, liberal Republican=confused beeatch.

LGL- Indeed, agreed and 100% No means no.
But waking up the next morning after making incredibly poor decisions and regretting your actions the night before does not constitute rape.

LGL & SIL;
Agree with you both, and sadly know three younger men convicted of date rape, sex with minors, and statutory rape. All three served time and were released after the females changed their stories, admitted lying about details, and two of them even explaining that it was jealous revenge. Dosen't change the fact that two of these guys had their lives and credibility ruined.
The girls were never brought up on any charges.

Once, a looong time ago, in college...I was in my room with a coed, we were both naked and (in my opinion) having a good time when she said "...we shouldn't do this..."
I said, "OK." I proceeded to get dressed and escorted her back to her dorm. She never talked to me again. It's a memory I wish I had but this one is almost as good. I've never been good at the dating game.
I knew girls, back then, that WERE date raped but they never complained about it and, in every case I knew about it, continued to date the 'gentlemen' involved.

Hmm.
Frat Party.
Alcohol.
Go to a guys room.
WTF does a girl-woman think is the agenda? Common sense says guy wants to put tab A into slot B. Blame the schools; blame sex ed; blame the parents; but...the age of alcohol consumption in the USA is 21. Not 20. Not 19. Not 18. So, a girl-woman under the age of 21 has already committed a crime before even being able to accuse someone else of a crime.
Often referred to as negligent behavior.
Next case.

"a gay liberal Republican,"
Any attempt at one upmanship at that would fail.lol

LGL & SIL - 100% agree with both of you. Cranky, & Blunt - you too.
My thought on this? If she's actually so drunk she can't articulate the word "no", and he has sex with her anyhow, that's rape. If she's intoxicated against her will (ie, drugged; GHB & ecstasy are the popular ones), then again it is rape. But if she's just too damn irresponsible to decide to slow down her drinking, or just not drink in the first place, then the drunken choice to have sex (by never saying "no" or "stop" or anything at all to halt the proceedings)? Then she has not been raped, except perhaps by Jose Cuervo.
She isn't necessarily indicating that she wants sex by going back to his room in a drunken state; but she is sending well-known and -understood social signals to that effect, and as a matter of her own safety should clearly indicate that she doesn't want sex.

Any chicks out there want to come over, have 5+ drinks and indicate that they're willing to have sex?

"gay liberal republican"?! This poor kid is obviously confused and has women issues, but he's completely right about this.

As a female I will say he has a point. Girls today Yes I say "girls" for a reason. Girls today have no clue what Mature behavior is. It is not drinking drinking at a frat party and then going to some guys room. Yes of course going to a frat guys room means sex. These girls really have to learn responsible behavior. When I was in college I knew what happens drink+frat boys+dorm=Drunking sex. Stop the stupidity girls be responsible for "YOUR OWN" behavior.

Maybe if 'girls' weren't so worried about their reputations they wouldn't call it rape so often? I happen to know a lot of women who enjoy getting a tipsy tip.
As Jimmy Buffet says:
"Why don't we get drunk and screw
I just bought a waterbed it's filled up for me and you
They say you are a snuff queen
Honey I don't think that's true
So why don't we get drunk and screw
Yeah, now baby I say, (lord!)
Why don't we get drunk and screw"

Is it still rape if you yell 'SURPRISE'?
The guy does have a point. If you go to a frat party, drink and they go to a guy's room... sure he might be a date rapist, but she is NOT an innocent victim.

Unattractive gay liberal republican writes offensive article about a sensitive subject.
Could he be trying any harder to get attention?
Posted by: dobie | Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at 12:16 PM
Consensual sex after intoxication does not amount to date rape but if the woman is administered a drug unknowingly it surely amounts to one. Unfortunately many rapists do not hold themselves responsible for a crime like date rape.
