Nicole Altendorf pleaded guilty to showing porn on a television that could be seen and heard from a Grand Forks elementary school. She was ordered to undergo a chemical-dependency evaluation and serve a year on unsupervised probation. (Fargo Forum [might require registration] | Associated Press)

Naughty girl! She apparently doesn't know the rules of porn:
1. Close curtains and/or blinds.
2. Lock doors.
3. Make comfy spot to view porn from.
4. Dim lights.
5. Play movie.
6. Adjust sound as needed to prevent fake screams of pleasure from reaching neighbor's ears or ruining the mood.
7. Keep fast forward button and box of tissues nearby.

[SHE] could probably do alright without the box of tissues.

Aren't the schools demanding that they be responsible for sex education?
They apparently don't like the competition.

I really don't understand this one. How close do they build houses to schools in Grand Forks? Because here in Texas our schools are pretty far away from a neighboring house. If her house is, say, across the street, how large was her television and how loud was her sound system?
I just have my doubts about school kids in the school or on the playground being able to see what she was watching unless they were peeping, in which case, the playground monitor should have stopped them.

Heavens! Imagine if she had been herself naked inside her own house? They would have thrown the book at her. Teach kids to look in other persons' windows. Spy on your neighbors, kids, report them to the police for doing what is private in private.

Private means 'Secluded from the sight, presence, or intrusion of others...'
If she was doing what is private in private none of this would have ever happened.
See Rule 1.

Amvet - I do get around don't I.

jj is spot on.
Unless this television was the size of a drive-in movie theatre screen, and she had a sound system loud enough to drown out a low-flying jet, there's no way the kids at the local school could have incidentally seen and heard anything.

Always close the blinds....always. I was staying at a hotel and walking to my room when I saw some interesting stuff that was going on in the room next door. I didn't know whether to pull up a chair and enjoy the show or to run to my room to see if I can hear.

My next-door neighbors used to watch pr0n on a wide-screen TV that faced their window. After they realized everything was visible from outside, they drew the drapes.
This woman was probably in the same situation. She should have been warned to close the blinds and turn down the sound, not prosecuted.
