Young people dressed as Patrick Tribett for Halloween. "I was walking down the street in Columbus (Ohio), and a guy recognized me," Tribett said. "He was the director of a rehab. He said, 'Patrick, can I speak to you?' He said, 'Do you know you're in Maxim magazine?"

I know I will catch hell for this.
But 8 weeks sober? After all that?
Yes, I know he is trying and that is all that matters, and I am too judgmental, and blah, blah, blah. I'm just saying maybe we are jumping the gun a little on this human interest feel good story.

Wow.....he's been sober for eight whole WEEKS!!
When he's been sober for ten YEARS give me a call..
He was once sober for five years, while he was in prison...Oh yeah..let's talk to his cellmates and I'll bet you'll get a different story.
LOSER!!!

You won't catch it from me, but eight weeks sober is better than eight weeks of huffing paint. Eight years--great!
Posted by: Sheila | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 01:09 PM
No doubt, the gold paint industry has been hurting the last two months.

I never heard of this guy before. I don't think I was missing much.
Posted by: Torgo | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 01:25 PM
I doubt breeding would be good, thinking of what all those chemicals could have done to his tadpole makers.
Posted by: LimeGreenLizard | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 01:34 PM
Let's wait until he's sober for a year or two, THEN run the story.
Posted by: Phranqlin | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 01:45 PM
I agree that 8 weeks isn't long enough to shout victory for this guy over the addiction. However, it is the attempt that should be applauded and support that is needed. Give him a break and see what he does with it!
Posted by: jojo | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 02:00 PM
jojo...did you miss the part about him being in for prison for a crime he did under the influence of inhalants??
I think he has had his "chances"!
Posted by: dANO | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 02:03 PM
Not surprised people recognize him... he's weird-looking even without the gold beard. He looks like something from an early WB cartoon...
Posted by: NitroPress | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 02:13 PM
Dude cleans his life up and you all take a crap on his effort. Eight weeks is nothing, but it is longer than Lent. Maybe we all should be shaking the guy's hand and giving some encouragement. dANO - he did his time - let him have a chance at being a productive member of society. RMM - we already knew you are too judgmental, but thank you for admitting it.

"He looks like something from an early WB cartoon..."
THAT'S IT! THAT'S IT! for years I've had the feeling that that mug was weirdly familiar and THAT IS IT. Like Bobby's World! LOL!

Addiction is hard to beat. I applaud him for trying to turn his life around, especially doing so publicly after being made a mockery of when he was at his (arguably) nationally exposed worst. Good for him.
Posted by: Wolf | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 03:12 PM
Speak for yourself, steveO. Or does "we" mean "my fellow trolls and I"?
Otherwise, I agree with the greater "we", in that eight weeks means nothing yet. While I do applaud his efforts, much remins to be seen. Hopefully, he'll work through this and lead a productive life. But breed? NFW. Pity the woman who's womb bears his offspring.
Posted by: LimeGreenLizard | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 03:13 PM
Okay SteveO...I'll be quiet until he gets arrested again.
Posted by: dANO | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 03:14 PM
LGL, I will agree with you on the avoidance of breeding thing, absolutely. That I am a troll, not so much, I have been commenting on this site for a lot longer than you have (it takes some work, but use the search function to your right).
dANO - that is all that is reasonable to request. All I was meaning to say was to not crap on the guy for trying.
Posted by: steveO | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 03:32 PM
I think people are crapping on the guy for tooting the sobriety horn a little early, not for trying to be sober for a little while.
Posted by: Reno | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 03:39 PM
I think the guy went to Woodstock and just took Crosby Stills a little to seriously when they sang about being golden.

As they say around the tables, The newest folks are the most important ones there.
They keep the rest sober by reminding them of what waits for them if they go back out.
Lots of opinions here, but how many REALLY Informed opinions.
No Excuses!
Takes one to know one... and thoroughly identify;
not to lamely excuse rampant bad behavior and social problems,
but "to love them until they learn to love themselves" and have the Faith, Humility, Self-Respect and Support not to let it continue.
In same ways the Alcoholics and addicts in recovery are the luckiest of "the crowd";
they, at least, KNOW what ails them.
It's the "NORMAL" folks with their heads up their behinds that refuse
to take responsibility for their OWN issues before they
"Fall Down" and kill the wife and kids...or something.

@steveO: So, time logged in here equals something of reverence, or some manner of respect? I think not.
I have not yet begun to spite!
(I think Bugs Bunny said that, with carrot-pistol drawn.) Sheila? What thinkith ye? (Or, is it "yee"?) RMM?
I'll sleep on it...

While I don't change my position or thoughts, leave it to the damn lawyers to Fark it all up.
http://www.phillyburbs.com/news/news_details/article/92/2009/november/30/wva-man-sues-over-use-of-mugshot.html
It seems this Recovering sad-sack has a lawyer "looking after his best interests" by suing others for using his mugshots for profit.
Absurd!! They're Mugshots and Public Property!
If they do keep someone from his path than let them make a profit.
Posted by: Krash | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 08:45 PM
What do you wanna bet that the Lawyer sought him out, not the other way around?
Posted by: Krash | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 08:47 PM
LGL, if that eminent philosopher B. Bunny didn't say it, he should have.

Mug shots before trial -- a tactic that violates constitutional rights and stains reputations without court convictions.
"nor shall any State deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law"

re: mugshots before trial.
I'm pretty sure he had the trial long ago. Presumably, the lawyer's not suing over his 6th amendment rights, but over the fact that his client isn't getting a piece of the pie.

I agree that eight weeks is no guarantee that he has turned things around.
As someone who stopped smoking I can tell you that eight weeks of fighting an addiction is a very long time.
It sounds like the guy genuinely wants to stay clean to me. It sounds like he's remorseful over the things he's done.
Posted by: Handy Dandy | Tuesday, December 01, 2009 at 08:37 AM
Yes, I saw that he went to jail. I assume since he's out that he served his time. I also saw that he went back to using after his release...and that he is sobering up now without having it forced on him by the judical system. That should entitle him to some support in his effort. More should come as he succeeds. I've done things in my life that I'm not exactly proud of, and would be horrified if they made worldwide news. I would like to think that the good person I became in spite of those mistakes should carry more weight than the errors when judging me.
I don't know dano, maybe you live in a glass house and can afford to have no compassion...I can't.

The guy seems quite level-headed. He's not tooting his own horn, the newspaper is. He's not pointing fingers, he realizes where the problems lay, and he knows what's at stake. Not that it matters what is written here, but I hope he has more positivity around him than he would find here.
