Parents, please pay attention to what your children do online!!! Limit access when you can't monitor.
Oh, and plant very sharp cacti outside your childrens' windows.
Obviously, it's not the parents' fault that the daughter had a ped in her room, but perhaps it could have been prevented.

He said he was willing to hide there for the next five years, but she said no. Party pooper.

This is why I don't use, or even look at, those social networks - I think that most of the subscribers are the lower end of the gene pool.

Ouch...! Worker, I liked the cacti image your comment inspired. Thanks! :D

KDP I use Facebook to keep in touch with real life friends and real life family members so that sticks me on the lower end of the gene pool?
Teenager girls where having sex with older men long before Facebook came along. A 19 year old should not have been sleeping with a 13 year old but the story lacks a lot of details and we all know that 13 year old girls can pass for 17 with ease these days.

Not enough information in this story.
How many stitches did the guy need after the mom found him?
How many neighbors were required to pull her mother off her closet buddy?
How long will he be in the hospital, if he survives?
Can they save both testicles?
I want to know.

RMM, I'm sure the beating was no worse than the many you've gotten for your submoronic behavior.

Facebook: Still the nuisance bar of the Internet.

Rocky, I have always enjoyed your humor. Let's meet up sometime (joke, in light of the news story).
Seriously, it takes a lot to get me laughing out loud, and that did it.
Of course, the rest of the story should also include the punishment of the daughter (she was activly hiding him). How long is she grounded? Is she now homeschooled? How much therapy will her mom be sending her to?

Sorry, but I do have a little problem with someone calling a 19 year old with a 13 year old a ped. Quick survey, who here has a 6 or more year difference between you and your spouse? I know i know ... poor innocent 13 year old right? Another quick question, who here was sexually active before 15? 14? quick ... get the pitchforks and torches
Posted by: Rofo | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 08:26 AM
I think age difference is not so much the problem as the age of the girl. Usually pedophilia is considered the sexual attraction of an adult to a pre-pubescent child, which a thirteen-year-old girl is probably not. However, thirteen is below the age of consent. That's the problem here.

Rofo, I hope your post was humor. And, for the record, my wife and I are 7 years apart. However, we were a the same stage of life when we met, and she was 29 (I was 36) when we got married and knew each other. My parents have a 7 year difference, but my mom was in her mid twenties (and he was in his 30s).
There is not a huge difference when both people are adults. Allowing a (probable) grade schooler to be with a 19 year old is similar to allowing a 2 year old to be with a razor blade. They are not mature enough to begin to understand the consequences.

@ ! - Ouch. Stop. Your mean comments bruise me. (Submoronic? That's a nice, big word for someone with such a clever moniker.) And no, I've never been beat up. Sorry to ruin your wet dream.
@ Worker - Thanks! But now I am going to have to check my closet before I can get to sleep tonight.. ;)
Posted by: RockyMtnMac | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 08:48 AM
Worker, still not be definition a pedophile. We know not the maturity level of the girl either. An age in a news article does little more then to anger up the masses, does nothing to tell an actual story.
Hell my mom was 16 and my dad was 22 when they started dating and later in the year got married ... 38 years later ... still married.
Nevermind all that. Do you really think one teenager should be charged with pedophilia type crimes for fooling around with another teenager in a consensual manner? Do you really think some dumb kids life should be ruined for this? Is that what you all honestly want to see happen to this guy? He thought with his d!ck and did something stupid, but nobody got hurt.

Last time some girl hid me in her closet I wound up in Narnia.
Posted by: Bill | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 09:01 AM
My grandmother on my fathers side of the family was married at the age of 14 and my grandfather was 34 at the time. Granted this was 1908 or something like that but the fact that my 34 year old grandfather was banging my 14 year old grandmothers pootang still is weird even if it was one hundred years ago.
Once again. Facebook was just how they meet. If it wasn't for Facebook it would have been another outlet. I'm sure video games and Family Guy had something to do with this as well.

lol @ Bill.
It was a WARDROBE, Bill! Crawling in someone's closet could land you God-knows-where!

RMM, your comment about the testicles was nuts.
BTW-Did the guy tell her, "I want you to sit on my facebook"?

This gives a whole new meaning to “coming out of the closet”.

One teenager fooling around with another teenager is not pedophilia. A nineteen-year-old is legally an adult. A thirteen-year-old is not. The age of consent might vary from state to state, but it is the crux of this case. Some state laws involve the difference in years of the two "teens" involved. One year might not be a big deal. Six years might be a big deal. Why is that so difficult to grasp?
Posted by: Sheila | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:03 AM
What's difficult to grasp Sheila is the witch hunt against this kid because of arbitrary ages connected to these laws. In some cases you can go 100 miles and the laws are different. What makes a 14 year old in one state able to choose to have sex, but 50 miles away in another state a 17 year old can't make that choice?
Do you see where the problem with all this is? Like I said before a 19 year old and a 13 year old ... that in not pedophilia that's bone head move. Every is quick to call for his head, lets room this one kids life because he thought it was ok to be with a girl that most likely had some feelings for him and he reciprocated and they got it on. You want him to lead the rest of his life with the same stima as a 55 year old priest molesting a 5 year old? Is that REALLY what you want? Can you honestly look at a situation like this and say that? Once you hit that all mighty sex offender list ... you are pretty much boned for life ....
For the record, I have no problem with the list, I have problems with the witch hunt mentality ... it's worse then the great satan scare of the 80's
Posted by: Rofo | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:41 AM
I agree, Rofo. Sex offender lists should be limited to actual sex offenders. Plenty of teenagers are winding up on these lists when all they've done is indulge in a bit of consensual nookie with a fellow teen who happens to below the local age of consent.
Also, the 19-year old is a total dumbass for pulling this stunt in the first place. The girl could easily have been an undercover cop or a predator posing as a teenaged chick.
Posted by: Phranqlin | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:58 AM
I don't recall that I insisted he be stigmatized for life, but I don't think it's a nudge-nudge wink-wink situation, either. I was pointing out that this 19-year-old's behavior here does not fit the definition of pedophilia. My point is that laws vary from state to state, a fact of life. In his state, he apparently broke the existing law. If he wants to have sex with thirteen-year-olds, he should move to a state that allows it.

But she wasn't doing it online! Parents, monitor what your kids are doing IN YOUR OWN HOUSE!!

A simple dog would unmask this intruder.
Posted by: sometimesilie | Monday, November 30, 2009 at 02:37 PM
Thanks for raising the issue, Rofo. 13 and 19 ain't Pedo now any more than it was 2,000 years ago (Right, Mother Mary?) or in the 1950's (Right, Jerry Lee?).
15 and 6, 14 and 39, 3 and 21 are definitively Pedo
ranges.
I'll ask it again; Why do I need a license for MY dog and most anyone is allowed to procreate?.. and without a wit of training, let alone a childcare license! Incredible!!
Almost as incredible as the idea of universal suffrage based solely upon reaching the age of Majority alive.
Now, granted, that is an accomplishment in Detroit and other urban neighborhoods, but a "man" who will live in a closet for two days just to have sex with a 13 year old SHOULD NOT be allowed to vote.
I think Universal suffrage is much over-rated...the same as this "instinctual" parenting skills stuff that society seems to want to believe in so badly.

I agree. Something like 13% of the adult population of the United States cannot locate Canada on an unlabeled map. I contend that if you don't know where the FRACK *Canada* is (and the percentages get higher- shockingly higher- as we move further afield) than you have positively NO CONCEPTION of any of the issues at play in any kind of E-Lection. Bring back poll tests; an unlabeled map of North America should about do it.
