Sharon Dauwalder, the mother of one of the teens, says "it's just hard to believe a ticket would be issued for that." There are claims the teens were vulgar and the workers felt threatened, but Spencer Dauwalder says one swear word was used in the rap, and it wasn't spoken in a threatening manner. I'm no rap fan, but a ticket for freedom of speach?
Posted by: LimeGreenLizard | Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 01:03 PM
I'll second that. Annoying does not equal illegal. Would they arrest someone singing a twangy bluegrass rendition of an order?

Rap is the one form of "music" that I just can't tolerate, but a citation for doing a rap???? That's just not right...

Well, it does take place in Utah, the land of the Morons.

They were probably black. In some parts of this country, you can still get ticketed just for being black.
Posted by: Charles | Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 01:30 PM
Charles,
Ticketed if you are lucky! Go to the Deep South sometime and see the citizens praying that all they get are tickets.
That said, all I can say about this, thanks to the OS&RR crew, is Utards.

Oh "Disorderly Conduct", it's every cops answer to the Constitution.

Would you like fries with that citation?
Posted by: Phranqlin | Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 02:17 PM
Oh, please. They can brag about this at the next open mic night.

The insanity must stop. Hooligans assaulting our innocent drive-through technicians with their vile way of talking! Where will it end?
Posted by: IronOre | Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 02:49 PM
It will all end 2012. There's gotta be a rappier way of saying that...

I'm-a spit the truth.
I won't stop

Does the Mormon Tabernacle Choir rap?

"doing a rap"
Posted by: RevJSH | Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 03:30 PM
Speaking of choirs, Torgo,
But what it had been Rock & Roll, like the Stones? Forgive my mistakes.
Opening:
Well you con’t always get what you wah-hant.
No you can’t always get what you wah-hant.
No you con’t always get what you wah-hant.
But if you try sometime,
You might find,
You get tha police!

I still prefer drive by poetry readings to drive thru rap. Then again, I have been known to make obscene poetry calls. Call a friend (female) who will find it humorous and breathe your latest poem to her at 3 am.

John John I am from the south, we are pretty integrated here. Vermont on the other hand scares the HELL out of me. I was a travel nurse there and the lack of diversity was eerie . I asked a coworker why I never saw anyone other than Caucasians and was told "If you are black and in Vermont you are in Jail." This totally blew my mind. Needless to say I did not re-up for another 3 month contract, just ran as fast as I could.

they were disrupting the business an likely causing other customers to wait in line..
THEY WERE ON PRIVATE PROPERTY
makes perfect sense to any one with half a brain even.

I always thought disorderly conduct was code for "contempt of cop." Apparently it's also code for "contempt of McDonald's drive-thru manager."
And Truth - you're exactly right. It makes perfect sense to anyone with (only) half a brain.

as silly as this sounds, I've always thought that ANYBODY that raps should be ticketed or quieted in some way.
Rap is to music what diarrhia is to food. Rap is to music what landfills are to nature. Rap is to music what kidney stones are to riding a rollercoaster.

@ ill_literate, Vermont is one of the most 'liberal' and excepting states in the country, racial makeup notwithstanding.
Now if I were going to go and say that "boy, there's nothing but blacks around here, I'm getting the fack out of here" I'd be "racist", right?
Mind you, I'm not insinuating that you are wrong in anyway for wanting to live somewhere else.

"Disorderly conduct citations are issued when someone does something to cause annoyance or alarm, "
Annoyance? Wow. Annoying by the standards of McDonald's managers. That sets the bar pretty low. Wonder if the police would have been called if the teens were crooning it Kuntry Style?

Fast food drive throughs have timers that register the amount of time taken to dispense EVERY single order and send the car on it's way. The timer registers average time overall and specific time for that particular transaction.
Each transaction time and info is kept in computer and can be printed out for the district manager's later perusal. Employees with "bad" drive through times are subject to possible discipline that can include suspension, termination, not receiving a raise, etc...
In other words, the rap was funny the first time, but repeating it several times ultimately just caused problems for employees and a lengthier wait for all other customers. Had I been behind them in line, I'd have been blasting my horn for having to put up with that stupidity.
Having worked fast food in my younger days, I can assure you that every a-hole in the world already comes thru the drive thru. We've seen flashers, couples having sex, people throw food at the window, bark like dogs, sing, curse, talk like Beevis and Butthead, the Cookie Monster, or give phony or deliberately garbled orders, and even sit at the window and eat their food whilst cars behind them blast horns...you name it. CLUE: NONE of the above is funny or original and employees do NOT put up with it; it interferes with their job and the other customer's service.
As far as freedom of speech? YOUR idiotic sense of humor should not infringe on MY right to receive good service from a fast food establishment. Customers are in the drive through lane to receive swift service, not be entertained.
Ticketing the kids sends a message that nips this behavior in the bud. Otherwise, it wouldn't be long before the idea of videoing your silly drive thru raps goes viral and fast food employees and customers everywhere have to endure this newest idiocy.

In the 60's, I mistakenly lived in the San Fernando valley for a while.
Well, the drugs were good.lol
Knew one guy who was totally burned way out.
He was on both downers(reds) and booze.
He WALKS UP TO THE CLOWN at a jack in the box and says, "I'm coming up to the window and I want your money."
I am NOT shitting you. He actually did this.
Needless to say, he got room & board in Van Nuys.lol

Ill-literate,
I too am from the South, Texas. I stand by my statement. I am not saying it is limited to our region of the country, but, when was the last time a person of color was dragged to death in Vermont?
Posted by: johnjohn | Friday, October 30, 2009 at 08:36 AM
VHTG - Perhaps fast food restaurants should not have commercials wherein the drive thru customers are rapping their orders to the speaker. A mere ticket stands no chance of nipping anything in the bud when competing with the example on the TV. Just a thought.
Posted by: johnjohn | Friday, October 30, 2009 at 08:39 AM
I think the crime here would have been "Trespassing" had they been asked to leave or "Assault" had they made threats or "Extortion" had they threatened not to leave unless you listened to their rap. No real need for a catch-all law like 'disorderly conduct.' But, it sounds like they were fined for their diction.

"VHTG - Perhaps fast food restaurants should not have commercials wherein the drive thru customers are rapping their orders to the speaker"
LOL! Touche. Though VHTG's view from the other side of the window is also enlightening. My buddy has a few funny stories about his time as the 16 yr old drive through guy @ a McDonalds in central PA. People are not right.

In Philly the catch-all was "Obstruction of Highway." The justification being that whatever behavior was occurring was happening on either in the street or on the sidewalk. I've heard this being applied to anyone from johns and prostitutes to people whose 'face' a cop didn't like.
