Dear readers: After 13 years, I'm closing The Obscure Store
I cannot for the life of me figure out how to be a smartass about this.

Please do not include Minnesota in the same bag as Wisconsin and Florida. It is one of the few sane states I've lived in.

I've lived in Minnesota. People behind the wheel there are *insane*. (Never seen a place where people run red lights so often.)

I am sure they will try to blame whatever content was playing on the computer at the time for the violence.

This is so sad. My heart goes out to their family and friends.

The boys probably had issues going on between them prior to this...the computer thing just brought them to the breaking point. Of course, the parents, as per usual, will deny that anything was amiss with their kids, and will insist that they were 'happy, normal' kids and they can't understand how this could have possibly happened. Parents of kids who commit these kind of violent acts (just like the parents of kids who commit suicide) are often in very deep denial that anything could have been wrong with their offspring, 'because if there had been, they would have known'. Of course, a lot of times Mom and Dad are too buried in their own little worlds to notice their children's issues, and things like this result.

I can empathize with the one brother. There were plenty of times I would have tried to do some serious damage to my brother. Lucky for us, he was pretty fast, and he was able to get away for the critical few minutes it took me to cool down from literally seeing red to just being pissed off.
I don't think I ever went after a weapon though. I think using weapons is a little too civilized for proper brother situation resolution.

Whatever happened to a good old-fashioned fistfight?

Teens have crazy in their brains. A few years usually fix that. Sadly, neither boy can look forward to a future. Parents needed.

A good, old-fashioned atomic wedgie would have been such a more appropriate response.

Wow. Just wow. The family's been through the ringer already by losing one child (admittedly through the actions of one of their own), and now it seems like they're going to lose the other child to the legal system. I don't feel the alleged murderer should get away scot free, but there has to be some other option.
