Man, 87, fatally burned after smoking while riding his bike
Joseph Rusin, 87, was seen by a passing motorist at noon engulfed in flames and rolling on the ground on the front lawn of a home. His cigarette probably ignited the nylon jacket he was wearing. (Newsday)
Poor old boy...what a way to go.

I see a potential lawsuit here. Cigarette packs don't say you can't smoke and ride a bike at the same time. Considering he was 87, I'm surprised he could do either anymore.

Sometimes a topic is just too freaky. The guy is pushing ninety after smoking for decades. Then the cigarettes finally kill him.

When they say that cigarettes will kill you, I'll bet no one figured this was one of the ways!

Another bicycle related death. Those things are dangerous.

people never suspect that their clothing will catch fire
very few fabrics are flame retarding
nylon doesn't just burn, it melts into the skin
I'm sorry for the old man and the people that witnessed this, but really it would have been much worse for him if he had survived

Jim that picture looks more like a blunt than a cigarette. Would've made this story more interesting for sure if the old guy was smoking pot.
Its freaky thou...usually if you catch yourself on fire you can get out of your clothes or put the fire out before you burn to death.
What a way to go...

If pot was legal, man, he'd be all like calm and stuff while he was burnin' to death. Heavy.

I'm going to hell....the first thing that popped into my head was the Blue Oyster Cult classic...."I'm burnin I'm burnin I'm burnin for you"...

I'm going to hell too, PMS. As soon as I started reading Toro's post I heard the voice of Cheech Marin.
'Man, I wonder what Great Dane tastes like"...

lambie is right, nylon melts and it is very difficult to put out the flames when nylon is involved...nasty deep burns.
poor old man.

Admit it - we're all going there. Most of the stuff I laugh at here is wicked, wicked.

His family should sue the bicycle company for not putting a warning on the bicycle about the dangers of smoking while biking.

Burning nylon - *shudder*. One of my crawling horrors is a "roman candle" crash of a hot air balloon, when the envelope catches fire. Down you go, smack into the ground, and a hundred pounds of burning nylon lands on top of you. Aieee, I just freaked myself out of sleeping.

Oh wow, that is tragic. Who know your clothes can kill you. This is a freak accident for sure.
