City worker gets probation for posting "whites only" sign

I'm really confused. He says he quickly realized that posting the sign was a bad idea and then threw the card away. Granted most people with half a brain would have realized it was a bad idea BEFORE they did it, but if he threw it away how did the other worker find it? If you throw something in the trash and someone picks it out can you really be charged?
BTW - I was discussing this with my brother yesterday and I'm just curious. I'm not sure who here is black/African-American (kind of the great equalizer of the internet, we don't know what anyone looks like), but if anyone is I'm wondering what you think of the term African-American. It always seemed an odd term to me since most black people weren't born in Africa and might be several generations removed. It seems to me that term took off quite a few years ago, but now I don't hear it used as much.

Stupid, and a reason to fire him. However, it is sad that this is a felony crime in America. IMHO this is only one step away from criminalizing thought crime. Yes, racism still exist, yes African American were screwed in the past. This is still a crazy law, unless it can be shown that it was done to racially intimidate the AA in question in order to oppress them in some manner. However, there is no suggestion of this in the article. This sounds like simply a stupid, poorly thought out joke.

At least twice a week, we have the Dunce of the Day story, usually about some person who can't see beyond the immediate. This guy has too much time on his hands if he can think up dumb stunts that no one else thinks is remotely funny.

G-Man-- Last week I kinda brushed on the same thing. I don't remember which story it was, but there was something which made me post, "Whenever I have to fill out a form asking race, I always try to put in American".
I think it's safe to say, that at least 80% of us here were born here in the United States. (Probably a higher percentage, but I'm being conservative...) I think that would make us Americans, and not African Americans, Irish Americans, Japanese Americans, or any other amalgam.
The sooner everyone realizes this, the sooner we can get on with more important things...

mills - it has nothing to do with the crime. the judge tacked it on as a way for the city to make more money off of the dude. he gives the choice 'submit to drug testing or jail time'
