Mom wants to display her gun while at her kid's soccer games

She's suing for the right to do so. Her lawyer says:"She believes she is made safer by openly carrying" the gun. (PennLive.com)

Being in law enforcement, I'm all about the 2nd amendment, but it's called "concealed carry permit" for a reason. There is absolutely no logical reason why someone should be openly brandishing a weapon during a kids soccer game.

Read the comments on the article. The big fuss was over that she was carrying openly, which is allowed in PA, but got her CC permit revoked.

I think this lady (if that's what she is) needs to submit herself for a psychiatric evaluation. I support the 2nd amendment whole heartedly. But there is no reason to display a firearm at a soccer game. I am from Pennsylvania. There are more gun owners in this state than you care to imagine. But if our freedoms are slowly being taken away, it's because of iresponsible people like this wingnut.

"daughter's soccer game"

Hmm, no mention of whether that was on school grounds (gun toting not allowed) or a public park (where likewise guns are usually banned).

Ah well, if she insists on carrying it openly, it is only a matter of time before someone takes it off her and shoots her with it.

I have CCP, the gun, and training to go with it. If the daughter I don't have was attending soccer games where gunplay was likely to ensue, I think I'd enroll her in kickboxing instead.

A shotgun soccer game...kind of like a shotgun wedding...

Wingnut she may be, but after she's done it a few times, she would probably stop.

Here in Texas, we have our share of gun-toters, but if you carry it out in the open, it tends to take the warmth off an event, and people react differently towards you. Ask any cop how they get treated when they're in uniform. It's not the shirt, it's the steel.

Her ability to interact with other parents and kids would likely be drastically reduced.

Where I grew up. Open carry was legal. As long as 1/3 of the gun was visible it was legal. Many folks just kept them sticking out of their back pockets or wore holsters.
I got to tell you. There wasn't any mugging around there. Shop owners also wore guns. I'm not a gun nut myself, but I never had any problem with it.

She carries it openly for intimidation not "safety" and she definitely wouldn't be watching my kids.

I love it... people don't care if a "cop" or a plain clothes "detective" has a sidearm at lunch... but a "regular" person?!?!? OMG, WTF?!?!?!

The Badge does not make a difference... the LAW is the LAW.

As a member in good standing of the NRA, a staunch supporter of firearms rights for the individual, and a holder of a CCW permit....I'd like to say, that this lady doesn't need to carry a firearm in my opinion...She's just looking for a fight, and if she didn't get one with the authorities, she would have picked one with a civilian.

From what I see/hear about youth sports events, she may just be waiting for a bad call. Then she can pop a cap into the underpaid teenage referee.

I agree with cherie, sounds more like intimidation to me.

Her behavior has got to be making her kid really popular:

"Hey look! There's the girl with the crazy mom! I wonder if she's psychotic too?"

Openly carrying a gun is her way of seeking attention.
"Ooooh, look at her!" If it were not the gun, it would be some other ostentatious display.

Perhaps she should just buy an F U t-shirt.

about 13 years ago I was in a store and alerted the security guard to the outline of a pistol stuffed into the back of a suspects pants. My wife and I left the store immediately as the guards shut the doors. It turns out the gunman was a county police officer carrying his police-authorized weapon in the waistband of his pants. That still floors me- what did he think the store security was going to do? It's a FREAKING GUN! When someone has one in a store everyone is going to leave the store immediately.

She's got a lot to be worried about.
Those eight-year soccer hooligans might have uzis.

Good grief. I can't believe all of the posters pissing themselves with fear over the thought of a gun. More power to this women. This country would be a better place if every adult carried openly. I wear a sidearm any time I leave my house, and even at home, I have a gun within reach in every room and one attached to my recliner. People need to grow a pair and quit whining every time their delicate little libtard, enviroweenie, raibow-flag-waving sensibilities are offended.

Notice in the original comments list that it only took a few entries to get to the McDonald's coffee comment. I wonder if there's a variant of Godwin's law to cover this?

Posted by: NitroPress | Dec 1, 2008 9:07:44 AM

Nitro, there should be....a frivolous lawsuits clause, perhaps?--discussion nearly always lead to the McD's coffee comparison.

But then, people (like me) with Bi-polar disorder tend bring topics to the discussion that have nothing to do with the subject. It's an ADD sort of thing.....maybe that should be another added clause to the Goodwin's law....

I don't see a problem with people being legally allowed to carry a gun on their hip. I also see no reason to do so.

Posted by: Reno | Dec 1, 2008 9:35:24 AM

Yep, I was right. These bitter small town voters cling to their guns and religion. 'nuff said.

there isnt a magic button that you can push to get rid of guns. guns are a reality. you must make decisions based on that reality.

the v-tech shooting should have been an eye opener that more people need to carry guns in order to prevent innocent deaths.

Posted by: buddy | Dec 1, 2008 9:57:24 AM

Good grief yourself, "Dick." If you can't make it from your recliner to the potty without being heavily armed, you're the one needs to grow a pair! What is it has you so terrified? Where the hell do you live?

This whole thing reminds me of the bumper sticker that says "DON'T HIT KIDS...(No...Seriously. They have guns now)!" Of course, that doesn't really cover the post tramatic soccer mom syndrome.
