First-grader pulling a knife on classmate "is by no means normal"
A 7-year-old first-grader wielding a kitchen knife robbed a 6-year-old classmate of one dollar during lunchtime in a bathroom. The younger child complied. (South Florida Sun Sentinel)December 3, 2008 | Permalink

"During the 2007-08 school year, officials seized 503 weapons from students, up from 315 the previous school year, according to statistics from the state Department of Education. From the beginning of August through Nov. 18, the Broward School District's reported weapons confiscations included three handguns, five BB guns, 10 razor blades and 53 knives."
Sounds like its becoming "Normal" behavior to me....
Time to start homeschooling your kiddies. I'm totally thankful that my youngest will Graduate in a few short months...I'm holding my breath until then.

Buddy,
I can't believe you are taking this so lightly. The point is that this is only a starting place. Maybe by teaching this child early that this isn't the way you act and treat people he can learn the lesson and not turn into a thug later in life. News? Maybe not...potential intervention into this kids life...YES!

I think Buddy was being sardonic, or sarcastic, or silly, or some other s-word. :P

@jojo - I do hope you realize Buddy had his tongue firmly in cheek, right?

how about you teach the wimp to not be a snitch? i think the major concern is to not let the weak kid to grow up to be a wussy and run for help.

Homeschooling is the way to go. Between sorry teachers and administrators, it's a black hole.

The solution is to ban kitchen knives. How can we stand by while this happens...

I agree that Homeschooling is a black hole, with sorry teachers and administrators. : )

Judging from the rest of the story, I'd say the kid showed amazing restraint by (a) only using a knife, and (2) letting the littler kid live.

Sign,
You hopeless anti-knife libtard! When knifes are outlawed, only outlaws will have knifes! What we need to do is expand knife carrying by school children so that they can defend themselves. Image the look on the 7 yo's face when the 6 yo whips out a 10" k-bar combat knife and says "You call that a knife? Know this is a knife!" and then plunges it into his pie-hole.
BWW, knife is a weird work. Why not nife?

Well, I for one am certainly glad we no longer spank kids in school! You can see how well it's working.
Your tax dollars hard at work in the public school system.
The teachers should get an extra afternoon off for "planning" to deal with this, while the administration should get another raise. That would be awesome!

SUCH THINGS WERE VERY COMMON YEARS AGO BUT THEN ALL KIDS HAD POCKET KNIVES SO IF YOU PULLED ONE ON SOMEONE THEIR KNIFE MIGHT JUST BE QUITE A BIT BIGGER. LOL

Sigh, you know it!
The best way to avoid this entire thing is not to have kids.

Beat his ass. Take him out of the school system never to return.

Knife is one of those holdover spellings from centuries ago. Pronounciation changed, but spelling didn't. Knife comes from Old English, Norse, German similar words. And the plural is "knives," not "knifes."

I love the line that follows the article:
Read more about school violence and tell us what you think.
WTF? Are they expecting someone to say is nifty????
