McD's nutrition czar calls French fries "one of the most victimized foods"

Little fat kids all across America are now celebrating.
Their favorite fatening food is no longer on the bad boy list
Eat up fat America eat up....
I will see you in the next war(laying on the groud out of breath thinking about french fries)

They are perhaps the lone item on their menu I find closest to "edible".

I eat at McD's maybe once every few months when I need something quick for lunch, but all I have is one of the salads. It's actually pretty good. I agree that they do get a bad rap just because they are so big. Most restaraunts serve food that is just as fattening. You can eat a reasonable meal at McDonald's, but people choose not to.
Supersize Me was pretty entertaining, but it's a silly experiment. I don't think anyone including McDonad's tells you it's a good idea to eat there everyday for breakfast, lunch, and dinner and eat large portions of everything.

BTW - If I find anything more sickening it's going into a Chinese restaurant and seeing so many people eating General Tso's Chicken with fried rice and an egg roll (or something similar). I'm sure that has more calories than any supersized meal at McD's.

I had french fries for dinner, but they were from actual, real potatoes as opposed to the ??? comprising McDonald's fries (which I do love, but also echo elchampinos sentiment on)

How does one victimize food?

Wow. I haven't read anything so absurd in a while. The McDonald's people think they'll get points for transparency even if people do not trust their food. But that's required by law a lot of places. And the idea that french fries are victimized is more than a little crazy.

G-Man, I agree with you on the calorie. But it's the chemicals that scare me a lot more. I felt a lot better once I cut most of that stuff out of my diet.

tim - you have to be very, very lonely and very, very sick

Oops. I mean to write "calories."

Gross. I've never seen "Supersize Me" but after reading the article about french fries not decomposing, I don't see myself ever eating them again.

update, unless the fries are made from REAL potatoes.

Well, I don't know what Burger King is doing, but there fries suck compared to McD's. I don't think McD's is using 'fake' potatoes, but if they are - I'd rather eat them than Burger King's fries. But I really think BK's burgers are generally better though.

"there fries"
Gads - I suck too.

Their fries are made from real potatoes, oil, and a sauce mix to give them a 'beef' flavor.

Jim - What's the deal with the Lapband ad next to this article? Coincidence?

WHO REALLY CARES ALL THOSE STRINGY FRIES SUCK

McD's is decent nutrition-wise if you stick to things like grilled chicken sandwiches (skip the mayo/special sauce), salads (with low-fat dressing), and the like.
The real problem with McDs is that the portion sizes on their high fat and high fructose corn syrup items are way out of control.

Let me get this right...the "Global Nutrition Director" of MCDONALDS is saying that McDonald's fries get a bad rap???? Well he doesn't have a vested interest does he?

G-Man...shame on you for dissing General Tao!!!
Posted by: cherie | Nov 20, 2008 7:46:28 AM
OD- they do indeed originate from an authentic potato, but they don't decompose the way normal foods do.
Posted by: sometimesilie | Nov 20, 2008 7:48:32 AM
Could it be all the salt that keeps them from decomposing? Makes you wonder what exactly is in the fry vat doesn't it....
Posted by: cherie | Nov 20, 2008 8:21:02 AM
Don't get me wrong Cherie, it tastes good (whether you call it General Tso's or Tao's). I have it maybe once every two years when I decide to eat bad. Then I have a couple of bites and can't eat anymore.
Here's some calorie info on Chinese food. They don't really say what the portion sizes are though.

I don't know but I'm pretty sure I read about it in Fast Food Nation and can confirm that more than once I've found some month's old fry when cleaning out my car and despite being a little dry, it looks pretty much like it did when I bought it.
