"We're a little stupified by this whole thing,” said the boy's mother. "He's one of the greatest men that ever lived. If he went as Abe Lincoln would they say he couldn't do that?" Alex Wolinski, who already has shoulder-length brown hair, donned a long white robe with a red sash, a fake beard, sandals and a crown of thorns.

What they don't tell you is that none of the other kids wore costumes
and he does this every Tuesday for some reason......

I'm sure a Hitler costume would be fine.
Posted by: twerp | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 11:58 AM
I'd send my kid as a Roman legionnaire and he could crucify the jebus kid for being an attention whore.
Wow...just like the story...Oh history...

what happened to freedom of speech?
Posted by: docray | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 12:04 PM
Read the article. According to either the kid or the mom (it's unclear) the issue wasn't the costume in toto, it was the crown of thorns and the beard.
I'm wondering why he couldn't have just removed those items and put them in a locker. Kids still have lockers right?
If that wasn't the problem, then somethings not kosher with the article.

Was everyone pointing at him and yelling "Jesus Christ?"

It's a Halloween Costume. The school should get over it. What's the difference between a beard and a face mask?
Posted by: David | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 12:14 PM
Sean, one of my kids dressed up as a Roman legionnaire a couple of years ago. We should get him and the Jesus kid together!
Seriously, though, are school administrators required to take stupid pills or something? A Jesus costume is pretty innocuous in the grand scheme of things. I can't see how it would be more disruptive than any other costume that involves fake facial hair.
Also, now we'll have to listen to all of the Christian wing nuts whine about this and cite it as Exhibit A in their persecution complex. Thanks a lot, Principal Prickly!

Wow. My kids aren't allowed to wear costumes to school and haven't for several years. They don't even have 'harvest' or fall parties.

My son went trick-or-treating a couple of years back dressed as Jesus...My daughter was an angel, my wife was a demon, and I went as Old Nick... Got quite a few laughs

One year, I dressed up as a ghost for halloween and everybody thought I was a KKK member.
Super-sensitive asswipes.

I think I'll wear my nudist costume tonight.
Posted by: twerp | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 12:50 PM
Hell my daughters school sent home a letter that they where NOT celebrating halloween at all and children could not dress up. However, today, they where hosting a 'dress up like your favorite character in a book day", and you had to bring the book it was from. Just boggled my mind, that they had to put it, multiple times, that it was not Halloween.

I don't see the problem. One fictional character is the same as the next.

Someone should go next year dressed up as Mohammed the prophet. See how much outrage there is when he gets sent home.
Posted by: Joe | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 02:06 PM
People are way too sensitive about halloween. I don't celebrate it because eat babies and worship the devil. As an Atheist, I celebrate it because I get to dress up in crazy costumes and for all the free candy. I'm Smurfette today. It's not easy being blue!

Uh, I think that kid should go sit down somewhere and be a pumpkin. How offensive!
Posted by: Sami-Sosa | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 04:46 PM
...and if you dress up as Mohammad, you are gauranteed death. Those folks dont play when it comes to mohammad. I am under a different name to protect me from harm.

Umm, this is just weird. The kid had no problem complying with the requests etc. and only had to remove the beard and crown... but he couldn't do that without having his mother run him home for an hour and a half to shower?
Huh?
Posted by: NitroPress | Friday, October 31, 2008 at 06:03 PM
The real reason was the other kids were insisting he turn their apple juice into wine. Chaos ensued.

He kept turning the apple juice into wine.

Seriously, I hate teachers and school administrators after I've gotten to know them these past two years. They are idiots.

wonder what would have happened if his sister dressed as Sarah Palin....now THAT would be offensive...and scary. The photo looks more like "Santa Claus..the early years" to me.

why did he have to shower?
did the other kids throw mud on him?
