"One does not have to be a psychoanalyst to reckon that McCain was smitten," writes Kathleen Parker. "By no means am I suggesting anything untoward between McCain and his running mate. ...But there can be no denying that McCain's selection of her over others far more qualified -- and his mind-boggling lack of attention to details that matter -- suggests other factors at work." (Washington Post)

Thinking with John McCain Jr., he was!

Sure, even at 72 his little brain may have been talking louder than the one supported by his shoulders....
Did anyone catch his response to the questions about her spending 150K on new clothing, hairdos and make up for she and her family....money that came from the Republican Campaign funds? He claimed it would all be given to charity after the elections. Yeah...I bet.

I don't know. Looking at McCain I always figured his dick was as limp as that arm of his.

What do you people want from the man?!??!? The poor guy was in prison in hell for 8 years and he married a blow up doll for free beer for god sake!
Posted by: Dra7400 | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 07:47 AM
BTW - I did my civic duty and voted yesterday here in Fla. I just wish I knew if my vote will count or if I accidentally voted for Pat Buchanan.
Posted by: G-Man | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 07:50 AM
I'm sorry I just noticed a mistake. McCain was in prison for like, 5 years. The country has gone to hell in the last 8 years....my fault.
Posted by: Dra7400 | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 07:53 AM
Yep same theory must apply to Obama selecting Biden because that wasn't the best pick either.

What happened to my comment?
Posted by: Common Sense | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:05 AM
Honestly, I hate all politicians. Don't get me wrong I will still vote. I have no idea who I am going to vote for. I wish they just had a "None of the above." box that I could check each year, or a "I hate them all" box. I would prefer to run the country by a national polling organization...ok maybe not.

Just for the record, Senator McCain never "chose" Palin. She was forced on him by advisors who told him that he couldn't win without the support of the brownshirts of the Religious Right and that this concession would deliver it. I think it's a healthy for the future of our nation that the move has backfired and that the cowardly Senator from Arizona may end up settling for having these former Klansmen hiding behind their phony Family Values flag as his ONLY support come election day. Perhaps, as a people, we are beginning to lose our tolerance for intolerance.
Posted by: hairtic | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:22 AM
If this theory is correct, wouldn't McCain simply have picked the Swedish Bikini Team as his running mate?
They might be more qualified in foreign affairs anyway.
Posted by: Torgo | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:31 AM
McCain is going to win, I would bet on it if they accepted American IP addresses on the websites that take those bets. You're reading the internet or watching MSNBC if you believe everything you wrote hairtic.
Posted by: Common Sense | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:32 AM
You know, I may not agree with the guy's politics, and I damn sure don't agree with his VP pick, but even as a Veteran with 16 years in the military, 1 tour in Iraq, 2 in Afghanistan, not to mention various other campaigns going back to Desert Storm...I don't feel that I'm qualified to call the man a coward....maybe that's just me.
Posted by: Dra7400 | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:34 AM
hairtic,
Perhaps you should take a nice walk in the park. Maybe treat yourself to ice cream. Or a few odd milligrams of benzodiazapam.
When everyone is screaming their heads off with anxiety fueled panic, it probably time to take a bit of nap.
Its well said that the work of the devil is to stir things up when they are already boiling over.
Posted by: nellagain | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:34 AM
he may be a crochety old bastard and I don't agree with his politics but I don't think John McCain's a coward nor is he stupid.
Palin on the other hand, is quite possibly the reincarnation of Countess Barthory, if not ol' Scratch getting in touch with his feminine side. Than again, I thin kof Satan as being quite intelligent...The merest whiff of any suggestion that she's qualified to run a doggie daycare, let alone be second in line (behind a very elderly, sickly man) is quite frankly so preposterous that I continually have to slap myself to ensure that I am in fact awake.

can't see the 15% thread. don't really care, just thought I'd put that out there...
Posted by: sometimesilie | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:48 AM
Leave it to a conservative pundit to finally figure it out so many weeks later. All you have to do is watch the video of her acceptance speech to know that McCain was thinking with his penis.
Playing with his wedding band while checking out her derriere was only the start - it's the weird kiss thing at the end that drew my attention. He keeps pushing himself on her until she kisses him. Not how you normally treat a vice-presidential candidate.
That and the "soul-mate" comment.
Posted by: David | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:49 AM
hairtic,
do you seriously believe that McCain doesn't have the balls to pick his own running mate?...1st...his pick was a bad one, and IF he was "forced" to pick her...the fact that he's a puppet for others reinforces WHY he's not a good candidate for President. Either way....
they aren't a good ticket.
Posted by: | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:50 AM
Dear Hare-brained hairtic:
Anyone who would call McCain "cowardly" is not only an Idiot, but an angry, bitter, confused, retarded Idiot, who has been drinking too much Obama-Aid.
You may be in for a big surprise on Nov. 5th....you prolly will be rioting in the street screaming "Racism"
Posted by: thetruth | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:51 AM
hairtic may have been a little militant in his post, but I think his general notion is sound. McCain was the most popular politician in American circa 2000. He would have trounced Gore in a general election. But he couldn't win his own party's nomination, thanks to whispering campaigns, push polling, and general dirty tactics orchestrated from the extreme wing of his party, not to mention "values voters", whatever that means anymore.
The dude snapped. He saw his last chance come around again, and he sold out. He compromised his beliefs. His voting record has morphed from right of center to one of the most conservative in the Senate in the last 8 years. His stances have changed. Why? To appeal to extremists. It's the same reason he chose Palin. Even most conservatives, the sane ones anyway, agree that Palin is not Presidential material. So why did he pick her? Why did he pick someone he'd never met before to fill in for him if the circumstances ever demanded it? Because he knew she would get out the base. He made his choice not based on the well being of the country, but to boost his election chances, the same reason he's altered positions and voting habits. And then on top of that, he's adopted many of the same tactics and strategies in this general election that cost him his party's nomination 8 years ago.
Does this make him a coward? I don't know. It certainly doesn't erase his military service or his time in a prison camp. But while calling him a coward may be up for debate, I think it's fair to call his recent behavior cowardly, self serving, and unsound.

Annnnnd we're back.
All about sex. Yup a man and woman can't be in the same room together cause...y'know sex urges 'n' stuff (which would be great name for a lingerie shop.)
STS, you need a woman, BADLY. Palin is not the in incarnation of anything whatsoever. She's a yacky, energetic (not in a good way), do-bee (shout out to anyone who remembers what that is), typical committee-woman. I could show you a dozen in your own home town.
I don't know why it sooooooo important to personally vilify a candidate in order to vote for somebody else. What are you trying to do? Set up an alibi? "I voted for Obama because Palin was twit"?
Posted by: nellagain | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:52 AM
You have a point David. The kiss was weird. A bit too cozy. You just dont KISS your running mate like that. If she wants to be respected as a woman and a politician she better stop kissing and winking at these men and start learning a bit more about what a VP does.
Posted by: cherie | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 08:53 AM
I would have to agree with everything you just said elchampino. But I don't think it makes him a coward. I think it makes him exactly what he is. A politician. They are all politicians, and they will do or say whatever it takes. If they say something that doesn't seem like it came from a politician, that's when they screwed up. Then they just hope it plays well to the public, if so they take credit for it and claim to be a "maverick" or "for the working man" it's all political BS. I am so ready for this election to be over.

Think this through: if Bill got hounded to hell for a little play in the closet with an intern, what do you suppose the response would be if the Prez was caught boinking the Vice Prez in the Oval Office?
Oh, wait, these are Republicans. The Demos would take another hit because it was their fault. Got it.
Posted by: NitroPress | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 09:08 AM
Dra7400 said; "They are all politicians, and they will do or say whatever it takes."
You mean like when Obama PROMISED, both verbally & in writing, that he would take "public" financing, but when he saw the political advantage of raking in millions & millions of dollars, and being able to actually buy his way into the White House, he renegged on his "PROMISE?"
Yeah, they'll SAY & DO virtually ANYTHING to get power.
Posted by: thetruth | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 09:25 AM
Yes that would be one example from millions.

"Oh, wait, these are Republicans. The Demos would take another hit because it was their fault. Got it." Yah . . . O.K . . .wish I lived in the smae Loney Toones world that you do NitroPress
Hey come on Bill set the standard which says you can get away with it because it’s a personal life thing. Anyway the Dem’s are pissed because all of their female politicians look like Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton . . . Case closed.

Succubus Barbie.

Of course there will be some who say that McCain has a thing for Palin. Maybe he does. A lot of other men do. Should it matter?
Posted by: Reno | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 09:39 AM
Palin might be cute if you could get her to shut the f!@#k up. And Never ever....ever speak again. Seriously. like have a vet do whatever they do to fix cats, except to her voice. Then, it's possible that she would be cute.

hairtic is like a furball,,,,right?
Posted by: debilsadvocado | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 09:45 AM
Okay, I take back the "cowardly" comment. It was unfair and uncalled for. I just think his ambition got in the way of his better judgement and that, when it did, it undermined his campaign. I won't be voting for Senator Obama either. I'm afraid both of these candidates are the products of a broken system. I'll be voting against this system when I cast my ballot for a third party reform-oriented candidate. Those of you who like the way things are have nothing to worry about. Your candidates will receive 97% of the vote.

I heard George Washington used to slip John Adams some tongue quite often.

Well hairtic, at least you realize that you will be effectively throwing away your vote. Why even show up?

It was the lead-up to the kiss that bugged me. After the speech she's inching away from him, he's following after her until she kisses him.

Just creeped me out.

And in "Moreblahblahblah" we have the Republican position in a nutshell: Women with extra helpings of brains are despised in the face of ex-beauty queens who selected bust size over IQ. Got it?
Of course, this is only about who we select to run the country for us. Why bother electing someone with brains who might be able to steer us out of this toilet? I guess electing one more set of boobs won't hurt.
Posted by: NitroPress | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 10:55 AM
Okay, I take back the "cowardly" comment. It was both unfair and uncalled for. But I really think that he allowed his ambition to override his better judgment on what some people would regard as a pretty important decision. It seems to have undermined his candidacy at a time when getting in bed with those folks is no longer a viable campaign strategy.
Posted by: hairtic | Friday, October 24, 2008 at 11:00 AM
G-Man, better than John slipping George the tongue...he may get splinters from the wooden teeth.

ElChamp, I suggest you take a look at this article, and see if you still feel the same way about his military service and prison time.
Disclaimer: I'll throw it out first to save the Neo-Cons the need to post the response -- Obviously these "facts" are skewed, taken out of context by the liberal-elite media, and anyone who finds even the tiniest grain of truth in it must be a pinko-commie! Happy now?

Haven't you all noticed, it goes far beyond Sarah Palin. Look at the rest of McCain's top advisers. They are all hot, middle-aged women. That appears to be his most important qualification.
Have you seen the difference in his appearance when he is standing among them as opposed to when he is standing alone. He seems to stand up a little, ummm, straighter.
All was not for naught. They are going to make a fine group picture for an issue of Playboy a few months after the election.

Ron, please tell me they don't all sound like Palin.

Many men are hot for Palin. Of course McCain is. It's not like he wouldn't break marriage vows or anything.

I agree with everything hairtic said in his/her first post, save the coward part. By pandering so hard for the fundies, he's alienated a lot of other groups. Careful, Johnny, what you ask for--you might just get it.
Nell--I know what a do-bee is--now where did I leave my magic mirror???

In a working democracy, no vote should be considered wasted except the vote not cast. Dissent once played an important role in negotiating civil liberties for the American populace. If we decline to accept the media's smothering of it, maybe it will one day play a role in restoring those civil liberties.

Minds wander too much when beautiful people are around.
Leave the lovely woman alone. If she is not getting pounded enough, I see the News folk are raping her daily.
I hope they win.
Shame on you witch hunters.
