Teen stabs dad with miniature sword in haircut dispute

Images
Shawn O'Hara, 15, (generic angry teen at left) admitted he stabbed his father with a 10-inch sword because "he wanted to be left alone and didn't want to get his hair cut." O'Hara told cops he didn't care if his 47-year-old father was hurt "because he gave him more than one warning to stay away." (Daytona Beach News-Journal)

Authoritarian parents need to get over it. Haircuts? Really? I bet his dad was a scholar...heh.

You can't win. Strike me down and I'll become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.

Why no pictures of these two?

Why didn't the dad have the sword? He was the one doing the disciplining right? Seems like a good opportunity to use it himself.

What ever happened to respecting (and fearing to a small degree) one's parents? This kid is mucked up in the head. If the willingly stabs his father, who else is he going to stab?

It brings to mind a story on here from several years ago about the father who attacked his son because he wanted to wear his hair short instead of long like the father's hair.

Why is there no picture of the trailer??

For some reason, this is going to strike a chord in everyone who hasn't got teenage kids.

Still...either the kid was a psycho....or...can you imagine how much harping the father had to do?
I think it happened when the father lunged at the kid.

Here's a comment from 'Monty' on the article page:
Reply to #3 Carl: Ditto! Re-read the last paragraph of the story: "the teen was afraid his father was going to hit him." Probably the word "again" should have been added.

A 10 inch *sword*?

A dagger perhaps, or a funny looking knife but doesn't met the length qualification for a sword.

Although there are many other objects where 10 inches would be well within breed standards.

LONG HAIR GETS THE GIRLS. SEX RULES!!

Posted by: BANGER | Aug 6, 2008 10:20:24 AM

Respect is earned. A man who is forcing his child to get a hair cut doesn't deserve much respect in my book.

I wonder if the kid will give a shit about totalitarian daddy when daddy's all old and can't care for himself anymore.

I love you Internet ToughParents.

Long hair might get the girls, but he's not going to get anywhere with them with such a small sword.

sorry you have to keep yours short, banger?

Beat the balls off this toolbag kid. He needs a real butt reaming. What a douche.

Ahh the Irish! No one knows how to have a family discussion like the Irish do. Being Irish myself, I can vouch for this.

I think this kid is lucky that he got arrested instead of staying with Daddy and whatever punishment he would dole out. 'Normal' kids don't just stab people so is this a nature or nurture reaction on his part?

Posted by: Reno | Aug 6, 2008 10:55:26 AM

Florida Hosiptal Fish Memorial? That sounds like an odd place to go after being stabbed.

This kid stabbed his parent over a haircut! We don't know if he was being beat regularly, the kid just said that he was afraid his dad was going to hit him. If the kid was being beaten regularly over senseless things, the kid should be protected and the dad punished. If the kid was getting hit by his dad for being a little s*$!head, that's the dad's perogative.

People keep asking "what's wrong with kids today?" Uh, a general lack of discipline perhaps?

Dad should stick a 10 inch foot in the kids ass

i cant resist:
I hate being stabbed by 10 inch swords

Posted by: elizabeth | Aug 6, 2008 12:39:22 PM

@ elizabeth:
I agree! And when will they learn that width is just as important as length. If you hit bottom without hitting the sides...

Posted by: Mickie | Aug 6, 2008 12:55:04 PM

a real irish son wouldnt hit his father unless the father was abusive. damn....

Posted by: angrysockmonkey | Aug 6, 2008 1:16:53 PM

haha ya boys always mistaking their knife for a sword.

Posted by: elizabeth | Aug 6, 2008 1:50:18 PM

I love the snarling teen photo accompanying the article

My dad and I scrapped a few times. Last time was when I got the better of him and that was about a decade ago now. . . anyhow, at my angriest at my pops I never even considered stabbing him. Punch him? Yeah, done that and he did it to me. Punches generally don't make quite the mess of a knife or sword. . . there's something more to this story. Either the kid is a bit warped or his dad is a bit warped or quite a bit of both.
