Boy interested in law enforcement takes joy ride in cop car
The 13-year-old kid apparently wanted to do some patrolling on his own. His mother was arrested because she didn't see a problem with his antics. (SCNow.com)

"You Will Respect My Authoritaay!"
That mother definitely would have failed my test to allow her to have kids.

Are you smarter than a Fifth Grader?
Boy : Watches someone enter the code on the door of the department, memorized it and used it to get into the building to take the keys to the vehicle.
Mom: Sees nothing wrong with son bringing police car home.

"Where'd you get the police car, son?"
"I found it, Maw!"
"Okay, stay outta trouble!"

"That mother definitely would have failed my test to allow her to have kids."
Well, she passed my stupidity exam.

What's really funny about this is that the cops didn't even know the car was missing!
The comment about the boy being well-behaved until recently (shoplifting + stealing a cop car) plus the mom's general cluelessness makes me wonder what else is going on in this kid's family life.

Obviously the Mother is the issue here.
The cops need to be responsible on some level. Nice to know its that easy to "break into" the police station.
I'm not sure juvie is a good place for this kid, he's obviously intelligent, he WAS on the right path....hopefully they can get him the right help so he doesn't end up spending his life behind bars...scare his ass straight

Mom; What you children do'in out there?
Kid; We're steeling police cars, mama!
Mom; That's nice, don't fight.

Stealing, not steeling.

Perhaps one day this kid will be able to drive his Ma to jail in a police car.
Reminds me....how do you know your mom is white trash?....she doesn't take the cigarette out of her mouth to tell the cop to kiss her ass.

what is petite larceny?

The racism in the article is appalling.
White kid: joyriding
Minority kid: car theft
Nice....

petit larceny also petty larceny. The theft of objects whose value is below a certain arbitrary limit.
Now that I think of it they must have a VERY high limit. Most car theft is automatically "grand" larceny.

Wow and folks say I'm quick to jump to conclusions when it comes to potentially racist remarks...
NP...I think you need to pause for some Wheaties or something, because I highly doubt thats the case.

Iwonder if he tried to pull anyone over?
The mother is nothing but a meat sock....

Naga and Cher,
Actually I noticed the use of "joyriding" in the article and it struck me as odd. I thought the joyriding had gone out with poodle skirts and DA's. I don't know that it I would have gone the same route as Naga (we're so rarely on the same planet) but it struck me as an odd usage.

Nell: The two counts of petit larceny were for the theft of the keys alone...there were also two counts of grand larceny for the theft of the cars...

Since the kid knows how to steal, he already qualifies as a cop.

Theft is theft, right? Why are we prettying it up with "joyriding?"

"how do you know your mom is white trash?....she doesn't take the cigarette out of her mouth to tell the cop to kiss her ass."
Of course you realize she will have the rest of that pack either curled up in the sleeve of her t-shirt, or if she is wearing the classic wal-mart tube top the
pack will be wedged in there.
Love it JJ; I got to see that kind of stuff in the DFW area when I was living down there...

I am impressed that the kid was able to get into the police station and steal the car, twice, but I am more impressed with the mother's apparent stupidity! Unbelievable!

Theft to me implies that you have no intention of returning the item. In the article it said that he brought the car back the week before...maybe that's where the "joyriding" came from.

Great point Nicole.
Petit Larceny...maybe what they meant was Petite Larceny...because he was just a little guy :)
