My mother always tells me "I brought you into this world, so I'm allowed to take you out of it anytime I want".

"He was trapped underneath the vehicle, police said.
Police said Mary Smith tried to get the vehicle off her son, but couldn't."
I think a valid question here is HOW she tried to get it off of him.

Those things provide excellent selection pressure against stupidity.

Alot of things "struck" me about this story.
She was in her 40's when she had him...
How devistated that poor woman must be! How awful for her! She'll probably die soon of a broken heart.
Use of the word CAROMED...
Why was a 94 yr old on a ATV in the first place? She must be pretty spry for her age.

Well it is obvious from the story that there are people stupid enough to let a 94yr old operate an ATV but why anyone would is beyond me.

I agree with TAG. I am all for older folks being youthful and enjoying life and what not but as much as I love my mother, and as healthy as she hopefully will be at age 94, I'm not going to stick her on an ATV, even if it is Mother's Day.

Bet the family hides the ATV keys from granny!
OMG! How horrible!
Wait! I wonder if she's still driving cars?
Hide those keys, too!

Mom's still the boss, no matter how old she is (or if you're grown and out of the house).

"My hand slipped off the brake and got stuck on the throttle lever and, I thought it was my Buick."

Asshole, Just how many women have you told that you weren't going to "let" them do something? How's that working out for ya?
My Mother is 75, and I can assure you that telling her that you aren't going to "let her do something would make for a bad day for you.

SEMSC, I think probably just like you would get a car out of the mud. Rock it back and forth until it breaks free.
It's pretty sad for the mom. No way I would ever let someone that old on an ATV. Probably shouldn't even be driving a car.
