It's not a good idea to store your gun in a working oven

Two brothers were wounded when a loaded gun hidden inside an oven discharged as the oven was heated. The boys' sister was going to do some baking and didn't know about the gun. (Chicago Sun-Times)

Why do black people do things like this? Why?

You would think idiots like this would learn, but I guess it's been a little while since the last "gun-hidden-in-oven-goes-off" story so I guess we were due.

I was all ready to give out a Darwin award, then read the story.....and the "surprise" element of stupid acts was missing in this case.....another fine example of the crap our courts are letting back on the street. The funniest thing (or saddest) you hear these days is people calling jails "correctional facilities".....unless it means that they will teach criminals the "correct way" to commit crimes so they don't get caught next time.

Who hides a loaded weapon in an oven? Especially when there are young children around? Dumbass.

STS, I think there was a "gun hidden in the oven" story over the regular wires not too long ago.

But still, these folks need some basic schooling on hiding contraband--the oven, the freezer, the mattress, the diaper pail (popular) are Obvious Places To Look as well as being stupidly dangerous places to hide things. Except sticking a gun in the freexer, keeps the powder dry makes the action quicker but since the cops ALWAYS look there, its not a good pick.

Happiness is a warm gun.

"Would I light this oven if my friend Mugsy was in there?"

"You might rabbit, you might..."

I've heard of hot lead, but this is ridiculous.

Too bad Mr. Asshat Parole Violator wasn't the one standing in front of the stove.

I have loaded and chambered handguns secreted in every room of my house, including the bathroom and kitchen. Some are mounted under a counter or affixed to the bedpost or armchair. I also keep a handgun in both of my vehicles and shotguns in all outbuildings. I am also happy to live in a carry state and wear a .32 Beretta Tomcat on my ankle.

Dirigo...EXACTLY what came to my mind.

You wouldn't hide a loaded gun in that oven now would'ya rabbit?

LOL

Oh, this story kinda pisses me off...because of one dumba$$'s stupid decision, two children were harmed.

I always get kinda pissy whenever children are harmed.

I think the best part is that there is a "related blog post" featuring a recipe for Crispy Oven Chicken at the end of the story.

"I...wear a .32 Beretta Tomcat on my ankle"

Hmm, I usually just wear socks. What's the matter with you anyway, too cheap to buy a REAL weapon?

Posted by: nellagain | Mar 24, 2008 12:58:06 PM

LOL nellagain, I was thinking the same thing.

dick tater you watch too much TV
i live in California and i have a concealed weapon permit
i sometimes even carry a gun when i travel through out California (LA, Oakland, etc..)
i even own a few firearms but hiding guns everywhere is just paranoia, get a safe..

Nellagain: I carry a .25 cal.Beretta, and I guarantee you, this little pistol will kill you just as dead as a 9mm, or .357

Posted by: usalg | Mar 24, 2008 1:51:06 PM

smaller caliber rounds are just as deadly at close range as their larger caliber brothers
however ultimately its almost always about the skill and luck of the shooter as opposed to the caliber of the weapon
i personally prefer a small 5 shot colt .45 or a small 6 shot glock 39 .45GAP

Posted by: chris n cali | Mar 24, 2008 2:02:18 PM

nellagain, most assassins use small caliber guns because the noise is easier to control and they are more deadly than larger caliber guns because the smaller bullet riccochets off of the bones in the body causing more internal organ damage. Whereas a larger caliber bullet would just blow straight through a body not causing as much damage. (I've been using the word "whereas" a lot today...anybody else notice that?)

stupid minds

Did I miss the part where it says WHEN the gun had been placed in the oven? Just curious how long these folks go between home-cooked meals...

Posted by: fermata | Mar 24, 2008 3:16:13 PM

What is weirding me out is that 'Tator makes me sound sane.

That's not good.

Posted by: Icecycle | Mar 24, 2008 5:07:17 PM

I really don't think it's a good idea to store a weapon in even a non-working oven.

Can you guess that he does not have any kids?

But it would be cool watching Tater going crazy in his house...flashbacks from Desperado coming to my mind...rolling on the floor, pulling out the two pistols under the coffee table, tossing them behind him, jumping and rolling over the couch while pulling out the shotgun behind the cushions..

LOL

I agree chris cali...I just like something with a little more heft even if it does require both target practise and plenty of upper body work to keep righteous.

And they ruin the line of my suits. I had to go to the gun purse.

Of course most males confronting a woman with a gun think
a) she can't hit the side of the barn
b) she won't pull the trigger

A larger weapon gives the impression that side of the barn is not in play. And they are so wrong, so terribly wrong to entertain the idea that a woman won't shoot them.

I always find it a bit funny overseas listening to peoples ideas of what american men and women are like. There's a notion that the american males are weak and the women are lust-addled.

DEFINITELY A TOTAL IDIOT.
