FBI seeks "fashionable felon" who held up Houston bank

Rather than the baggy jeans and hoodie you might expect, the "fashionable felon" -- as investigators have dubbed her -- was wearing a white blouse and black slacks when she walked up to a bank teller. But, "the clothes don't make the woman," says a Houston FBI agent. (Houston Chronicle)

The question is...was it worth her while? How much money did she get away with? The hair was probably a piece. She doesn't have any other features that really stand out. Someone will probably know her from that picture but depending on who recongizes her, they may not bother turning her in. Give it time...when this money runs out, she'll probably do it again.

"the clothes don't make the woman," says a Houston FBI agent

Duh.....it's what she looks like naked that makes the woman.

So, I can't wear baggy pants and a hoodie to the bank anymore. Now it's looking like nice slacks and a blouse will be out as well. What's next?

Holy crap, am I going to have to go nekkid to the bank?!

"...the clothes don't make the woman..." Of course not, stupid-o. A woman is made of sugar and spice and everything nice. Guys are made of snips and snails and puppy dog tails. I thought everyone knew that.

I can see the next Project Runway challenge now....clothes for fellons.....

Yes pls!

Well, if I must, then I must. But I'll probably just stick to the drive-through. Someone must think of the children, you know. And anyone with vision.

LOL Soo..

Someone should pull down her pants. That will teach her a lesson.

Since when is a white blouse and black slacks fashionable? Sounds like a waiter’s uniform to me.

"It's also possible that the woman works nearby and stopped by the bank during a coffee break, FBI agents said."
Yeah, I usually take a coffee break, leave the building and go rob banks. Doesn't everyone?

You know what would rock? If she purposefully gained like 70 lbs just to rob a bank and goes into hiding until she loses it all.

While she's at it she might want to work on losing more than just 70 lbs.

Only an idiot or a rather dim toddler would think a "sparkling, gold-colored purse" was fashionable.

I was expecting a thin blonde with sunglasses dressed in Prada, perhaps carrying a bag with a small, useless dog in it.

Fashion is for tools who can't think for themselves.

I shop at Good Will.

I shop at Good Will.

And still buy fashionable clothes from Goodwill....used, but fashionable.
Unless you're making your own clothes using totally random patterns that you create, you're just as much a tool.

I make my own clothes from time to time, but I've never been brave enough to create my own style. I do have a few rules with clothes:

1. soft fabric (scratchy sucks no matter who is on the label)
2. good fit (this one's pretty difficult)
3. colors at least kinda-sorta coordinate

My sister, on the other hand, just throws stuff on, most of it doesn't match using any standard, sometimes none of it fits well, and she always looks fantastic. I hate her. :P

Looks like she might be spending it at McD's.

I think that is not a she.

A good disguise requires that the furniture be what the viewer will remember and repeat-- a wig, glasses, a good wrap to build up your bust, and a shiny purse. All distractions and all meaningless. Its a lot easier for a plump man to disguise hiimself effectively as a plump woman (provided he's not to tall) than it is for a plump woman to disguise herself as anything.

I suppose I'm a tool because I must choose from clothes that were designed to attract people who care about fashion? What if I bought clothes like leisure-suits that were once fashionable, but not fashionable now?

If Carthart wasn't so expensive, I'd wear that! Function over form!

I find Goodwill stores coming up short in two areas, price (too high, comparatively) and low selection. Maybe it's my area of the country.

I have much better luck at Salvation Army and Value Village stores. I won't buy shoes, pants, or underwear at them, but I'll go to one of them and buy 20 work shirts for the same $30 that Macy's would charge me for one brand-new one. My late SO was always grossed out by me buying clothes there.

"What if they DIED?" I'd hear.

"Then they don't need this $75 shirt I'm getting for $2," I'd say.

I like the St. Vincent de Paul thrift stores myself -- good merchandise selection and conveniently located close to my house.

At this point in my life, I'm putting more into the thrift system than I'm taking out (see earlier discussion on clutter), but I still take a stroll through the store to see if anything catches my eye.

I adore thrift store shopping. I look at it as treasure hunting. The Goodwill around here is quite expensive for a thrift store, but they generally sell better-condition clothes. My main beef with them is they organize by color, not by size. I don't have that kind of time.

I also look at it as a form of recycling. Good for everyone and everything. Less useful junk in the landfill is always a good thing.

I suppose I'm a tool because I must choose from clothes that were designed to attract people who care about fashion?

Those clothes you bought from Goodwill were designed by someone weren't they? Those designs fit some sort of fashion. Unless you designed your own clothes that do not conform to any known theme on earth, you're a tool like the rest of us.

What if I bought clothes like leisure-suits that were once fashionable, but not fashionable now?

Yes. Read above.
Honestly, there really isn't anything wrong with appearing fashionable. It's when people follow it with a crazy zeal that it gets bad.

/I never liked pleated pants...I don't understand how men can wear them.

STYLE SAYS IT ALL.........

Posted by: ULTRA | Mar 20, 2008 11:58:36 AM

So, unless I make my own clothes, I am fashionable because nobody sells clothing that does not conform to some idea of 'fashion'.

Seems we're using a rather over-broad definition of the word.

With that logic, everyone is a philosopher!

So, unless I make my own clothes, I am fashionable because nobody sells clothing that does not conform to some idea of 'fashion'.

Actually what I meant was that unless you're making your own clothes with designs that are in no way similar to anyone else's then you're conforming to someone's idea of fashion....hence you're a tool (like the rest of us).
But all in all it doesn't matter. If what you wear is comfortable and doesn't smell bad, that's all you need right?
