Elderly man kept wife's body at the Red Roof Inn

She had been dead for over a week by the time the hotel staff discovered the woman. The maid was a bit suspicious because of the smell and the man's refusal of housekeeping services. (Virginian-Pilot | WAVY.com)

I think I once died in a Red Roof Inn. Or at least wished I had.

"He never seemed to leave but the only thing he ordered from room service was a fork and knife so we knew something was up."

necrophiliac?

This is really sad and creepy at the same time.

Lois, you're going to Hell.

Posted by: Gomer | Mar 20, 2008 7:24:16 AM

No twerp, just two old people with nowhere to live. Living in a motel because everything they worked for their whole damn lives was gone.

Gomer - I think you posted this in the wrong thread, but I figured as much. Sigh. Anyone want to join me?

Posted by: Lois Lane | Mar 20, 2008 7:30:52 AM

Lois, I was just doing some cross-threading. See you in Haydees. I hope you're really hot. Well, I guess you will be that, but I meant really very physically attractive.

Posted by: Gomer | Mar 20, 2008 7:36:36 AM

She became suspicious when the corpse-like smell of the Red Roof Inn was stronger than usual.

Posted by: Sigh | Mar 20, 2008 7:41:46 AM

Well, Gomer, my boyfriend thinks I'm hot :)

Posted by: Lois Lane | Mar 20, 2008 7:45:44 AM

Hate to break it to you Lois, but when you're not looking he dresses up in tights and a cape.

Posted by: Gomer | Mar 20, 2008 7:50:16 AM

I'm pretty sure if they were living in hotels...they weren't broke. Yes Redroof is cheap...but it would be cheaper to have an apt somewhere.

Its just sad. he'll probably die shortly.

Do they charge for a second person if the second person is dead?

Maybe they should. While the hotel saved money on housekeepign, there was extra wear and tear on the ice machine.

Gomer, how do you know? Did he say something?

Posted by: Lois Lane | Mar 20, 2008 8:21:42 AM

The man cooperat ed with police, and no charges have been filed, Golden said. "He didn't want to part with her."

Might not be terrible if he went to jail. At least someone that talks back could keep him company and the rent is cheaper than Red Roof Inn. But seriously folks.....(snare roll)

Gag me with a spoon, can you imagine the commercials: Like the Roach Hotel, check in and don't check out?
Like Psycho, Mama keeps him company?

It's all over town. And so is he, by the way. For the love of God, Lois, open your eyes.

Poor guy. I bet dementia and just plain old loneliness are involved here.

Posted by: Phranqlin | Mar 20, 2008 9:24:13 AM

He shouldn't even get a stiff fine as, there was no plot to this story.
He should get a partial refund as, she was gone for a couple of weeks.

Actually, Gomer, her boyfriend dresses in thick-rimmed glasses and works for a newspaper when Lois isn't looking.....she already knows about the tights....

Posted by: twerp | Mar 20, 2008 10:33:14 AM

Well, she must have liked Red Roof Inn... she stayed there for the rest of her life. (Sorry.)

As for the comment that it would have been cheaper to live in an apartment: Well, of course the monthly bill for a hotel is usually more than a comparable apartment.

But a lot of poor/working-class/struggling people live in low-end hotels because they can't save up enough money for the deposit, last month's rent, utility connection fees, etc., all at the same time. So they have to pay a lot more to stay in a hotel, and just end up there indefinitely because their income forces them to live week-to-week. It's a viscious cycle.

I don't know if that's what happened to this couple, but it happens to a lot of people. Do you really think tourists are the ones filling up all of those rundown flophouses on the edge of town?

JUST LAID HER OUT IN STYLE ...YOU THINK ? LMAO

Posted by: Rock Marine | Mar 20, 2008 12:19:58 PM

Very sad, the only person he had left in life is gone.

Posted by: David | Mar 20, 2008 1:18:31 PM

He just couldn't bear to part with her; or after a week and a half, he just couldn't bear to part with parts of her.

"Actually, Gomer, her boyfriend dresses in thick-rimmed glasses and works for a newspaper when Lois isn't looking.....she already knows about the tights...."

Twerp's got it right! He looks damn good in those tights too.

The guy figured it will be cheaper for him to keep her there....funeral home prices being what they are these days.
