Robbery victim didn't want to look like a wimp on YouTube

Dunkin' Donuts employee Dustin Hoffmann had one thought when he hit a robber with a tip cup -- not looking like a wimp on YouTube. He says he fought back because he wanted to "look good" if the surveillance tape turned up on the website. (NorthJersey.com)

Price of not looking like a "wimp" on Youtube?:

$190 of your employer's money minus whatever he can get for a robber's used baseball cap (color-black).

Looking and sounding like a complete jackass in front of millions of people?:

Priceless.

This dumbass is lucky he didn't look like a dead man on youtube.

Too bad he didn't get shot, then he could have died knowing his death scene WOULDN'T have made it onto YouTube.

(Though I'm sure it's just a matter of time before they do.)

Three items of interest in this story:

There wasn't anything heavier around that a tin tip cup? (Say that ten times real fast. Go on, try it out loud.) Oh yeah, gonna do a LOT of damage with a blunt object weighing about 2 ounces. Like trying to stab someone to death with needle.

Dustin? HOFFMANN? Thanks, Mom and Dad!

Also:

"Beige" work boots? BEIGE? Not tan, not natural leather, not even light suede, but BEIGE?

"Too bad he didn't get shot...." -E
"...lucky he didn't look like a dead man...." -yucca

(The article didn't say anything about the robber having a gun, or any kind of weapon, for that matter.)

Hey, don't steal that money from me!
I've got a tin cup here, you see?
And man, have no doubt:
I WILL not wimp out.
I want to look good on TV!

I have to admit that if I were a clerk and someone just lunged over the counter and started grabbing money, I'd probably start punching them. There's something almost insulting about a robbery attempt that crude. At least put your hand in your coat pocket and point it like a gun.

There is alot of oxygen being wasted by these people. Put them in the Town Square with Dunce Hats. This can be their moment of fame on youtube. "Dumb and Dumber"

Yeah.... he'll look real cool working at a damn donut shop in Jersey. Also, how do you successfully rob a dunkin' donuts? There's more cops there than at the police station.

With a name like Dustin Hoffman...I wouldn't expect him to put up with any shit...unless he was more of a Tootsie.

If the robber obviously didn't have a weapon and was just grabbin at money I'm a little confused about how he got away, let alone got away with so much. Attack him with a tin cup? For goddsake man start swingin'. Either we are missing something in the story or, once this thing gets on the Y'Ube, this employee is definitely going to look like a wimp.

I guess the only other way this could look heroic is if the robber was several times his size.

The cup it showed on cnn was not tin, looked like a ceramic coffee cup or soup bowl. Why didn't the cops that were there do something? Oh don't try and tell me there wasn't any at the donut shop! Anyway, why throw things when you can shoot? And yes, that type of robber should be shot. Only thing that will break up this BS of the thug network. Cops don't want victims to respond at all. Job security you know...

could it be possible that the employee (dustin) was actually a friend of the robbers? But he was trying to make it look like he was defending the money? Last year about this time a local gas station was robbed. It appeared on video that the night guy was trying to fend off the robber...but it later turned out they were friends and were in it together.

That does look like a more substantial mug he whacked at the guy with. I revise my second line above:

I've got a tip cup here, you see?

Okay...first of all...it was a CERAMIC tip jar...NOT tin. You can clearly see that if you watch any of the videos. The cup did more damage then a fist would have. Second of all...the robber only got away with 91 out of 65O bucks so obviously Dustin did something right. Third...the robber had NO WEAPON so Dust had no chance of getting shot or stabbed. Fourth... why would he have a friend come in to rob the store and then whack him in the head? And for only 91 bucks? Dustin would have let the guy get away with more, don't you think?
