Iowa man arrested for "corning" former girlfriend's home

Corn
Daniel Eugene Wilson, 47, was arrested Tuesday after police received complaints that he had been harassing a woman he used to date by phoning throughout the night and throwing corn at her home. He also made believe he was a cop in one of his calls. (This guy needs to knock off the "corning" and start tipping some cows.) (Burlington Hawk Eye)

"corning?" THis must vernacular for the cornfed Iowans.

I remember corning people's houses when I was in high school for a good laugh, but a 47-year-old?

This story is just unnecessary.

I live in IA and we're not all like that.....I'm fairly cultured and I've never even heard of "corning".

Tsk tsk tsk another misunderstanding. She was quoting from Julius Ceasar and he took her seriously.

Posted by: Kghoti | Oct 24, 2007 3:57:40 PM

He calls her so she won't be lonely and he gives her corn so she won't go hungry. He hides next to a truck to protect her from from bunglers, I mean burglars. And the police arrest him?? Whats this world coming to?? Next we'll hear of Soccer Moms giving thier cheerleader daughters beer or something. ;-(

"Corning"? Amateur.

"Cauliflowering" is how the pros do it.

Just don't forget the butter....

Posted by: ReginaFilangee | Oct 24, 2007 6:12:34 PM

But I suspect there's not one kernel of truth in that story.

Throwing ears of corn will not get her attention.

There you have it. One lives on this planet for many years, but until today, I did know the term "corning". I thought it was the company Corning.

Now I know it is the act of harassing someone by throwing ears of corn at their home.

Idiot Nation USA has just raised the bar.

Yet another reason that I moved the hell away from Iowa.

She's confused, it was really for her pigs.

Posted by: Winston | Oct 24, 2007 9:23:30 PM

sounds like to me she should invest in some CorningWare siding for her house

Posted by: Erm..Um..Yeah | Oct 24, 2007 10:23:22 PM

At least he wasn't cornholing her.

What a magnanimous, well fed and wealthy bunch Iowans must be! Social status shouldn't be a factor for eating well in this state. Turn on the charm and food is thrown at your house. What do they throw if they don't like you??

Posted by: thomas | Oct 25, 2007 5:40:07 AM

I can't say that I've ever even heard of corning before, but I've done something similar. In Florida, back in high school, we'd drive around and get the popcorn that movie theaters were throwing away. Huge yard-trash bags filled with the stuff. Then throw it on someones lawn. You can't pick it up. You can't rake it.

Then the seagulls came.

"At least he wasn't cornholing her.".......that's what I thought "corning" must mean the moment I read the headline. Uh.....I've heard of egging someones house, throwing tomatoes at a house.......even peeing (pea-ing?) on someones house.....but corn? I'm a-maized this would do much....but if anyone has an opinion, I'm all ears.

"What do they throw if they don't like you??"

Pig shit, thomas.

Corning is usually done by kids, not just in Iowa. This guy is a loser. No wonder she dumped him.

"Now I know it is the act of harassing someone by throwing ears of corn at their home."

Not ears of corn, Charles--kernals--it makes a mess in the yard and it is hard to clean up, and if the recipient isn't lucky, corn can grow in the yard.

Thanks for the explanation, troschne -- I was wondering what the point of corning was.

Now I know.

Some kids throw corn kernels. The hard-core corners throw ears of corn at passing cars, hoping to break a windshield or two. A year or two ago, some "corners" in northern OH were happily corning one night when a cornee came back, shot into the field where they were hiding, killed one (who was in his twenties.) Not a good idea. The irate cornee/shooter was sent to prison.

Posted by: Sheila | Oct 25, 2007 11:58:44 AM

sent to prison? I would think that grand marshall at the next parade would be more in order.
